After the recent comp there was a bit of discussion as to whether the current format could be improved.
The current rules allow late picking, reacting to others picks and double bluff next level stuff, all of which is currently within the rules.

Caramba's opinion is it's fine as it is as the challenge of countering participants taking advantage of the current loopholes makes it more fun.
My opinion was the possibilities for advantage play gives an edge in R3 to QF dependent more on participants' lifestyles rather than quality of picks.

Edy suggested he was genuinely open to ideas, but as the thread is now lost in the no mans land of the archive forum I'm posting this here.

To be clear I'm just interested in the thoughts of people who play it. It's a third of a year till the next one so why not have a feedback thread.
If people are happy with the current structure then fair enough.

One thing I don't advocate is sending edy's picks, not to be trusted imo, edy is apart of the rat pack, the inner circle of forum friends, who's to say he wouldn't feed his friends infoGrin

in all seriousness, it's OK as it is, only thing I would add is we should be allowed to post a back up pick to our main pick, because out main pick might be last on court but then pulls out with no option to make another choice, there's no harm in having that option and it really should be incorporated

I also strongly advocate a tie breaker so we can do away with this nonsense of sharing titles, there are no draws in Tennis. I've missed dozens of these over the years but have managed to win 2 - that's 2 shared titles, one here at the US Open 2022 with Caramba and I think the other many years ago at the French - with about 200 other players, which was ridiculous.

Tie breaker should be number of games played or most odds against winners chosen.

That was always perfectly ok in my mind and I think it's occasionally been done by people in the past. Will try to remember stating the possibility explicitly from the AO onwards.

This is something I definitely want to know and have discussed as I prefer having some sort of tiebreaker as well. There was an odds based tiebreaker (average odds of winning picks) for the final three slams of 2021 on a trial basis and then I asked if it should continue that way, if another tiebreaker should be introduced or if it should go back to not having a tiebreaker.

....there was exactly one opinion voiced, so back to shared joy the competition went. Which is definitely ok with me as well, but I'd just prefer a tiebreaker personally. I don't envision there to be many opinions voiced on that until the AO, so if the demand is there I'd probably run the AO as normal and ask for opinions in those comp threads (again). Maybe in the meantime figure out what kind of tiebreaker those that do voice an opinion now would prefer.

I would go with sets and games lost these days.

What I think would be most fun would be to be entirely in the dark of everyone's picks throughout the comp. With maybe people just signalling at the start of whether they are in and then giving updates for others on whether they are still in.

Problem is, I can't think of a way of realising it in a way that keeps the game accessible and easy to do. There aren't exactly hordes of people playing for it not to matter if half of them say "screw you guys, 'tis too much work, I'm going home!". Doing it off forum would probably also be a big no-no not only regarding accessibility, but also regarding betfair banning me because they think I'd be trying to phish people.
