I've never understood the 'graciously retire' line.

To me if a successful and financially comfortable athlete in any sport carries on past their supposed 'Best before' date (risking the associated injuries etc), that just shows passion for the game. It's a plus surely.

It's like with Laura Robson constantly trying to find a route back into the sport. Laura knows her ship has sailed long ago but she can't let it go because she loves it. I think that's great tbh.

Tennis would benefit if players who are done as singles players stick around in doubles like for instance Martina Hingis and John McEnroe did. Big names for crowds to enjoy and other players can learn from having them around.
