I think the 10 month ban reflects that she wasn't trying to cheat, but she has to take responsibiity for what goes into her body and using a pharmacy to mix up bespoke vitamins when there was a possibly for cross contamination was a bad idea

I think her stuff will more likely have been contaminated, just like Farah ate contaminated beef and like Moore's and Gatica's recent positive doping samples from Bogota will be down to beef consumption. Though for the latter two it really is negligent with there having had been such a high profile case with Farah regarding contaminated Colombian beef.

I.e they should have known better than eat meat in Colombia if they aren't interested in all the stress associated with a positive doping sample.

Emma Raducanu has not turned up on No 1 Court for her scheduled practice session with Garbine Muguruza at 2:15pm. Saw her heading in the opposite direction about 20 minutes ago looking rather downbeat.

it was 5-6 years ago, maybe she doesn't hold grudges like Serena does.

tl;dr version: Alternates fill main draw vacancies that open before qualies start. Lucky losers fill them after qualies started.

Yes, there is a difference.

An alternate replaces a vacancy in the main draw that opens up before qualies start. This is simply an ordered list sorted by entry ranking, which is the ranking six weeks ahead of a main tour event unless they changed the entry deadline lately. Alternates are first ranked, first served. So taking your list, if there had been one more withdrawal from the tournament before qualies started, then Baptiste would have taken that spot. Another withdrawal would have been given Bucsa a place in the main draw.

Lucky losers come into play when there are withdrawals from the main draw after qualies started. With them you usually need a bit of luck to get into the main draw as the tennis bodies introduced a draw of straws element so to speak a few years ago after it was deemed that players tanked in the final round of qualies when they knew there was an opening and they were guaranteed that spot due to being the highest seed. However, seeding and ranking still counts here as the players to be put into the hat will be the highest seeds/highest ranked players that lost in the final round of qualies (or previous round of qualies if there are a lot of withdrawals).

So for Keys withdrawal it will have been:

Vandeweghe (2nd seed)
Kerkhove (14th seed)
Yuan (15th seed)
Ferro (16th seed)

in the hat from a quick scan of those that lost in the final round of qualies. Vandeweghe actually got lucky there that she was drawn first from those four to replace Keys.
