I am glad to interest you in a new edition of the long-running tennis subforum tradition.
Pick a player each day. If your player wins, you advance to the next day and get to pick again. At the end, glory, lots of forum cred, an entry into the competition's hall of fame awaits the ultimate winner. If your player loses, you are out and eternal shame shall fall upon you. Each player can only be chosen once, so maybe don't pick your favoured finalists on the first two days. If the first set was completed and your player retires, it counts as a loss. If your pick withdraws or retires before the first set is completed, you can pick from another match that hasn't been started yet. So retirement rules are basically the same as on the Betfair Exchange.
If matches are rescheduled due to rain, you are not allowed to pick it on the new day (e.g if Lorenzi-Nakashima is originally scheduled for day 1, but it rains and doesn't start on day 1, starts on day 2 instead...you are not allowed to pick it for day 2. You are however of course allowed to use it as your day 1 pick). If it comes to such a scenario, I will try to point out which matches you are not allowed to pick on the day.
The picks continue every day until only one person is left, everyone has been eliminated, or the tournament has finished.
Picks don't have to be made before all play starts for the day, but it naturally should be made before the relevant match starts.
If multiple people reach the same day, they will share the same spot in the final standings.

How does it work if someone picks a match and then the chosen player's opponent withdraws and is replaced by a lucky loser? To be consistent with the rules that relate to the chosen player retiring, does the picker therefore have to pick again? Or (assuming there are no updates posted on the thread after the withdrawal) is their pick rolled by default onto the new completely different matchup? |

Grant asked me something similar on twitter earlier after I told him Davis had withdrawn from the match.
The pick by default gets rolled onto the new matchup. It might not be ideal, but me unilaterally voiding a pick like that would be worse. If someone doesn't like the new match up, they can always choose anew from the not yet started matches if they wish to do so. |

As per precedent set some time ago, and in UK law precedent is everything, Journeyman's replacement pick became the favourite of the final match of the day when he failed to submit a new pick tp replace Kalinina. That was Sabalenka. The tournament committee of one is considering changing the retirement rules to 1 ball for the next edition. Opinions welcome.

Even though the circumstances are different the rule that has been applied to me seems consistent with the rule that affected Grant so it seems fair.
