its great that there is a new kid on the block.........given that nadal is coming near the end, Carloc Alcaraz must fancy his chances of winning a french open or 5...... the question is can he do it this year. all the value is defo gone..........9/4 even if nadal doesnt turn up is not much of a price. novak must surely fancy his chances of becoming the only man to win the slams 3 times each.......he wont get a better chance than next week in paris. this time rafas injury looks a massive problem.....he took six mths off last year to ready himself for the aus open........if he cant beat denis shapovalov from a set up, what chance has he of beating carlos or novak in best of 5 in paris.......that leg injury could mean he will end his career on 21 slams. write him off at your peril but this time it looks more realistic. cant see past carlos or novak for the french......zverev's serve is gone to bits and tsitsipas is not a man for pressure.........the rest have no chance. its a no bet tournament. its great that novak will have some competition to get past rafas 21 slams.......i believe the aus open will keep its vaccine mandate in place for sport and therefore he will be restricted to 3 slams per year..........he probably has another 6 slams to get to 22, so i will be shocked if he cant get it done. carlos is very good on hardcourt also so novak wont have it all his own way. but that could be his only opponent given medvedev is unlikely to turn up in new york for the us open...........
Barring a miraculous recovery from Rafa, I can see Novak winning the next 3 slams.
He'll benefit from his lighter programme & will get stronger as the year progresses imo.
Can't see Carlos currently able to beat Novak over 5 sets, having used up a lot of gas to get that far.
Beating Novak over 5 sets is almost like a different sport.

Where does all this Carlos can't go 5 sets come from? He played a nearly four hour long SF against De Minaur and then beat Busta in straights a few hours later in Barcelona. I still have Djoko as slight fave, but I have no concerns over Carlos's stamina.

beating Rafa and Novak back to back on clay is more physically demanding than playing some scrubs that he'll beat 3-0 with a day's rest in between. Sure if he has a long five setter with Rafa or Titsipas in the semis and then has Novak in the final, that will be tough, but that goes for any player.

Hard to see past Novak who has just timed his form upcurve like a dream.
But my dark horse is De Minaur, obviously subject to
1- The draw 2- Not randomly injuring himself in Lyon
Seriously tested Carlos in Barcelona, really coming together as a prospect (relatively) under the radar. His mindset seems greatly improved since coming back. Demon is going to hit the bullseye sooner rather than later.

Interesting comments and views. 1.Nadal probably won`t be the same anymore due to injury but he is still one of the strongest mentally. 2.Tsitsipas is a mentally weak choker even on his best surface which is clay, he can beat anyone but also can choke to anyone from any leading position, not reliable at all. 3.Djoko moko koko can do it all if his body keeps up which is very likely. 4.Medvedev`s main problem is that he is a spoiled child and very immature but might time will change him and then he is a real deal. 5. There is a HUGE concern about best of 5 if we talk about Carlos, but it has nothing to do with his stamina its all about the way he is playing, his elbow and ankle are already damaged so with time he has to change the way he plays and that’s why 5 setters is dangerous for him CURRENTLY with the current game style.
6. Anything can happen in tennis might Serena will win Men`s RG...who knows nowadays....

this draw is a great argument for seedings not to be based on rankings........nadal and novak in same quarter.......same half as carlos.........carlos q final with zverev..........then medvedev who is poor on clay and has not played a clay match yet this year is in the other half with stefanos............what the heck
rafa out to 5/1 now........he has never been this big for the french open........is he worth a few quid?

You can never write him off but I'd be amazed if he were to win.
Looks like he'll have to play 2 "finals" just to get the final.
5/1 looks very skinny given his current form & niggles.
