"Rafa, you are one of the best tennis athletes in the world!"

that's a bit of an understatement.

not convinced yet. Still lacking that one superstar that is gonna make young boys pick up a racquet. Can Taylor Fritz be a top guy? Maybe.

Yeah more evidence needed.  But composure, eloquent communicator, got the job done and seems grounded enough to deal with the mad US media hope-hype that's going to hit him.

Nadal had breathing problems.  A lot of Sports people more than any other time having problems with breathing across many sports.  What is going on?

There has been a respiratory virus doing the rounds for a bit more than two years. Bit surprised you didn't know/notice. It's been in the news quite a bit.

Though Rafa's problem seemed to have more of a muscular origin judging from afar.

These are the comments that have made this a discussed topic today

“It’s tough for me to breathe. When I try to breathe, it’s painful and it’s very uncomfortable,” Nadal said. ”When I’m breathing, when I’m moving it’s like a needle all the time inside here. I get dizzy a little bit because it’s painful.

“It’s a kind of pain that limits me a lot. It’s not only about pain, I don’t feel very well because it affects my breathing.

“Honestly I am sad because of the way I was not able to compete. The thing that worries me now, it’s about what’s going on there, what I have to do now to recover and how long it’s going to take.”

I'm generally in the Novak camp (I admire him for refusing to go against his personal values/beliefs) so I wasn't a fan of Rafa's comments in Australia. But I've not liked seeing all the projection today on Soc med attempting to link Nadal's issues to MRNA vax / clotting etc. I think it's speculative and in bad taste. It's almost like people wishing him ill to further their argument

rafa nearly lost to seb korda early on........he wasnt playing that well to be honest....still cant believe he lost to mr fritz. hes such a mediocre player.
its 3 weeks to monte carlo. zverev, tsitsipas, alvarez and novak will be his main challangers. whenever rafa is a contender and/or winner of hardcourt events like he has this year, he goes on to totally dominate the clay court season. he has only done the clay court masters series and french open clean sweep once - 2010. that year he also won wimbledon and the us open. maybe he will skip barcelona this year.

Clearly run out of steam & hampered by injury having played the most amount of tennis he's ever played at this stage of any season.

He's probably played twice as much tennis an anybody else.

Should have quit after the 1st set to preserve himself for the clay season.

Wikipedia and Wikileaks are not the same thing. It was more of a starting point anyway. Wikipedia gives you a lot of information about the respiratory virus, but you can and should always do your own additional research.

a bit like his decision to continue v shapovalov in q final aus open 2022 when he went on to lift slam 21.........indian wells is a big event.
this rest may do him good. he missed wimbledon and us open last year. will only play 2 or 3 clay events this year. rib injury is not a big deal. batteries recharged.
