Maybe with Emma's success they will add a 5th Slam and place it in China for financial and marketing purposes.

The way she played at the US Open, you'd say 10+ is feasible, & she'll be pushing for world no1 in next few years. Appreciate her ambition but a little surprised she ditched her coach who obviously did a great job to get her playing the way she did at Flushing Meadow. Women's game has incredible strength in depth but she's definitely not a Kenin or Wozniacki, a 1-Slam wonder, as long as she stays healthy, trains hard, is well mentored, and gets the coaching situation sorted out.

A lot of ifs in there.

A couple of issues.

One concern is 'raging bull syndrome'. Remember in that movie when Jake LaMotta vicously beats up Tony Janiro and the gangster utters the famous line 'he ain't so pretty now'. In the following tournaments Sasnovich and Kostyuk seemed to rise up a level to take Emma out and then didn't seem anything like as motivated in their next rounds. Emma's New York Fairy story was amazing but Kostyuk probably gave fairly accurate voice to a lot of players when she talked about how she'd felt seeing Emma (and Leylah) jump ahead of their place in the perceived order. She has made herself a target.

Also. The level of risktaking and aggression she pulled out at the US open (in particular the third round through to the QF) was her ace in the pack, but will she be able/willing to commit to both of those as an established superstar with the associated pressures?

So I can see some frustrations ahead but I think she'll end up with 1-2 hard court slams and one wimbledon.

At least 5. More conservative estimate as not been impressed with some of her decisions post-US Open.

5 would be 1 a year for the next 5 years. is she really going to win 1/4 of the grand slams?

or 1 every 2 years for 10 years, if she has an unsually long career at the top. is that likely either?

She has never played a match on clay, so there's a quarter of the majors gone for the foreseeable. Can't see her developing her clay game ranked where she is either.

I reckon she needs to have an awful year and lose the bulk of her ranking points and then go back to where she should have started from and develop her tour experience and game from the level most young players do. Going to be very hard to do that from the top 20 level and she's going to be there until the USO at least.

The premature adulation after the US open was inevitable I suppose. I enjoyed watching her play there and hoped that she would progress but to give her the Sports Personality and other awards based on basically 3 good results was ridiculous. I hope she does win another major but I would not put any money on it.

think you've gotta give her the whole of this year at least before judging her properly. she's not really been on tour on a regular basis yet and obviously it's not gone well at all in limited matches since the us open

none of the other recent shock winners have gone even remotely close to following up in another slam yet and she has plenty of time on her side
