Given your spectacular tipping for wimbledon, please give us your USO musings........

i have backed Barty at 11/2 to win the womens........thats my only selection. she is head and shoulders above the rest at the moment but nothing is assured in womens tennis.

my gut tells me djokovic will not win the mens. laying novak is the play at 4/5 but i cant bring myself to do it since i want him to win. zverev and tsitsipas played high level tennis at cincinatti. they and medvedev are improving all the time. this could be the slam where they breakthrough. novak losing at the olympics was weird. he was in total control but somehow lost. thats probably his last chance to win the olympics and that will hurt. maybe the pressure got to him. it might get to him here as well, chasing the calander slam. he has lost 5 finals here and had the debacle last year. really looking forward to this slam.

wasn't going to post anything on this BDJ tbh, is the most unpredictable slam of the year given it's place on the calendar, everyone's knackered, my 2 penny's worth however are the following, will go against Novak even though he's around 1.7 with most books, I can't trust that he isn't still carrying injuries, pulled out of doubles at the Olympics with a shoulder injury then inexplicable lost when a set up to Zverev, then lost the Bronze match, hasn't played since, he said he had multiple injuries, no idea whether the rest has helped but it's a big question mark, given that, Berrettini to win that quarter is 9/1, looks good to me, his run is Chardy > Moutet? > Sandgren? > Sonogo? > Novak?. Wouldn't even be the greatest shock if Nishikori beat ND in round 3, it all depends on his physical state.

It feels like Medvedev's time to win his first slam especially given the above, outright is 4/1, not great value at all, but there you go, looks like Blown a gasket> Koepfer? > Cilic bang? > Dimimug/cocaine? > in Ruud health/Davidovic Fokina? > greeky/Rublev> > Berrettini/Zverev/Novak/Shapovalov.

Speaking of Shapovalov, I think he's worth a punt to win his 2nd quarter at 7/1, route looks like, Delbonis < St. Pauls? > Cashhanov? > Carreno Busta? > Zverev/Sinner?, that's doable, I'm not sure Zverev's will be focused 100% given the domestic abuse thing which has reared it's ahead once again on the eve of the tournament. Would even push the envelope a bit further and have some of the 28/1 to reach the final, though yet again, it's dependant on Djokovic's health. He had a good run last year losing in 5 sets in the quarters to Carreno busta, 2019 he lost in 5 sets round 3 to Monfils. 2018 he lost in 5 sets in the 3rd to Anderson, 2017 he came through qualifying, beating Medvedev in the first round before losing 76 76 76 to Busta again in R4, suffice to say, whatever happens with him, he wont go quietly. Pre tournament first round loss to Paire in Cinci not really a worry either, both Thiem and Zverev lost their first match there last year, then made the US Open final.

Barty is the obvious route to go down, obviously a slam is a motivation in itself, but without doing the calculations I'm pretty sure she will end the year world number 1 regardless, she's miles ahead, also been away from family for 5 months because of the situation in Australia, may sound like a flimsy reason but given how badly she misses given how much she mentions it, them wouldn't be surprised if she takes an early bath. I'd rather go with someone like Swiatek to win at 18/1, or at least 11/2 to win her quarter route is Lisa Loeb? > Ferror Rocher? > Counterfeit? > Bencic/Peculiar Pegula? > Barty/Brady bunch/Radicalcanu? > Badosa/Andreexescu? > Osaka/Azarenka?. Osaka has a softer route but 6/1 for someone who has too many mental issues of late, not for me.

The only 2 other punts I'd take is Azarenka to win her quarter at 10/1, route could be Martincova > Poulini? > Muguruza? > Krejcikova? > Dr. Mertens? Obviously Garbine is the biggest stumbling block, And Badosa to win her quarter at 9/2, route could be Van Uytvanck? > Gracheva the underachiever? > thunder thighs? > Pliskabot? > Big foot.

the picture is always clearer at the other 3 slams and always blurrier here but if you're going to lay big favs, I'd say the US Open is the place to do it but don't hold me to it.

Kind Regards.

it's also the time of year, and why I usually avoid predicting this slam, even Cilic won here. I had Brady going far but she pulled out allowing Raducanu to progress. Can't believe Shap lost to Harris would never have predicted that. Looks like Novak is fairly fit but dropping sets which is usually a red flag he's not at his best, Berrettini will stand a chance assuiming he gets through. Laying Barty and Osaka came in though. Swiatek/Bencic a real 50/50. The winner should come from one of these two. Australia look to be enforcing vaccines, if that's the case it could affect performances for those that have injections close to time, I think that's why Erikssen collapsed at the Euro's incidentally, they say he had it not long before, no idea.

medvedev is destroying his opponents. ive seen emma radacanu's maches and she is very agressive - goes for everything. her opponents have been poor though.

He has never denied having the vax Edy. Even a simpleton like you must realise he was jabbed up.

Emma will be a top 10 player if she keeps up this level of performance.

Her last opponent wasn't allowed to play - she just hit her off the court & she's no mug either.

Maybe he has had "sim problems" lately.

Medvedev was a winning pick at 4/1, The lays of Osaka, Barty and Novak worked out well, though was counting on Djokovic being knocked out earlier, he wasn't 100% here but skipping the warm up events meant he saved enough energy to knock out my 9/1 Berrettini quarter winner who was 1 round away. Swiatek and Azarenka lost their 50/50's as highlighted as the stumbling blocks....and Shapovalov and Badosa were just crap. There is actual doubt about Australia going ahead or being moved somewhere else.

case numbers are going up in Australia but it is almost entirely in New South Wales, not Victoria (Melbourne)
