It's been almost 8 months since the last Slam in tennis, but the 2nd one of the year is finally here. And what more fitting place to have it than at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park? No Rafa, no Roger. Novak Djokovic has started the year 23-0, will he go 30-0 once it's over? The women's event look wide open. The two faves are still Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, but there are question marks over both with the former not being in form and the latter being injured. And will we even get two weeks of 100% focus on tennis or will there be more boycotts or covid drama?

How is Zverev ever gonna win a Slam if he didn't today? Those yips/mental monsters he has are only gonna grow bigger after this. If he wasn't so arrogant, I'd feel sympathy for him.
Thiem would still have won a slam. That was Zverevs chance you feel and he choked super hard.
He will get over the yips imo. We can rib him all we like but it still shows how good he is that effectively he's gone to the brink of a title playing like utter crap for most the tournament.

Zverev has the weirdest serve yips we've ever seen, have we ever seen someone who can put down 140+ serves, and 2nd serve fluctuates from about 70-125mph. No idea what is going on there really, as it's hard to even know what's going through your head when you're fluctuating that much.
At least Siegemund and Vera kindly asked the umpire if they were allowed to hug.

Zverev has age massively on his side really. Grand slams surely be wide open at some point in his career, Thiem significantly older even if he should get a lot more chances, it's very hard to see him not winning RG some day (though hard to see him being particularly well prepared for it this year as assume won't play beforehand).
