not all events (I think they go to Beijing by choice), but some of them

She has been playing events in China where attendance isn't mandatory so that doesn't surprise me.

Maybe attendance was only mandatory for the first match and those who enjoyed it stayed for this.

there's definitely something fishy going on. I watch lots of tennis from Asia. A big crowd like that for a Martic vs Paolini match is not normal there. I'll keep my eye on this for the rest of week.

There were some shenanigans to get people to attend this first match and make the tournament come across as a success. Whether it was threats or bribes I don't know. But it was something.

The Chinese don't go and watch non-Chinese non-stars play tennis in masses on a Monday morning unless they have a good reason to.

if it was free tickets they would have stayed for the rest of the day.

No idea, but Taylor is a GOAT at marketing. She's the only Western act on there. Maybe she's the only one who puts an effort into it, there must be other Western acts who could also do well there.

Person who made Vol 27 didn't pay attention to numbers and just looked what number the directly preceding week had.
