Quebec actually has some fun players in it by its usual standards.

Crazy that BT are covering the other tournament. Why?
Sabalenka out on her own. You could argue 3/1 is a massive price. It will be a test as to whether she maintains that winning focus/mentality. If she carries forward her recent form then she wins. Problem is there have been quite a few cases of one standout entry and they usually end up bombing and the bookmakers clean up. Hoping Sabalenka is different and will see this as a great opportunity to bounce back and win a second title. |

The Serena Williams saga rolls on.
After the ridiculous fine it appears the WTA want to use the men v women comparison as a smokescreen. Yes, let's forget about her behaviour which is the real story. Everyone wants the rules to be applied for both sexes. That isn't point and they know it. And that Aussie cartoon how on earth is that racist? It is quite a decent likeness. |

Go Dayana.

Is it me btw or is Quebec way slower than normal, like it's not slow by any means, but it doesn't look the ice rink of past years.
|
By:
Yastremska choking and thanks for the muggy angle they gave us on break point of just Yastremska in shot and you couldn't even see the ball.
|
By:
Yastremska also mugged hard by not pressing for the double break throughout this set much. Gifted a lot of points on return.

Pliskova looked generally awful throughout the match, in fact Kris Plis never looks good to me I guess, just a ue machine who can't move.

Shocking result for Sabalenka.
A blip or already the start of the slope? For sure after last night I am not going to waste money finding out. The US Open defeat was very disappointing but understandable given what Osaka went on to achieve. In comparison a straight sets defeat to Lepchenko is just garbage. She was playing a relative veteran who she had easily beaten before, not an up and coming potential star. No excuses. She won't find much easier opportunities to throw away than this. If she really thinks she has arrived she only needs to look at Ostapenko who is now a bit part player at the top table. At least she won a Slam before hitting the slope. |

You haven't followed the WTA for very long, have you?
|

Sabalenka was very bad, but it's not that surprising. Firstly I really don't know why she even played the event, it's not like she can even be that desperate to just win a title, given she just won New Haven, so this fills no real purpose and is at a horrible junction in the calendar with Asia starting next week (well this week actually). Secondly she's just played event after event, going deep in most for weeks now, she looked super flat most the match last night, no intensity whatsoever.
|
By:
She needs to get over to Asia to start getting used to the time zone and preparing for the real upcoming tournaments where she can make good gains on her ranking
|
By:
I assume she isn't playing next week if she played Quebec this week, but don't know.
|
By:
Wuhan and Beijing should be her priorities

Yer always a load of gift points there for someone as half the field norm tired, finished, injured/insert whatever reason for flopping.

Btw a note on Davis Cup starting tomorrow. I'd be wary of a lot of these ties, the ones that aren't the SF's, given a lot of them are for nothing but seeding place next year with the changes that are happening, though I think a lot of weak teams are being fielded because of this anyway.
