Damir Džumhur is a huge price to win this match, currently 19s on the exchange (Nadal 1.06 to lay)

I know Rafa has some huge fans on here, and I would never dispute his place in the tennis stratosphere.
But what he isn't is immortal, and Džumhur is a nightmare matchup for him right now.
Not just because this is a player with a fantastic attitude and self belief who is in the ascendancy, winning his first two ATP titles a few months ago (on hard (I)) and having beaten Nadal in their previous meeting on hard (Miami) the year before (Nadal retired two sets down)
but because he is not trapped in the tennis bubble right now.

Nadal (and Federer)'s resurgence is a kind of magic trick. I don't mean an illusion, but it is a trick nonetheless that relies on non-'Elite' players beating themselves before they even step onto the court through a mixture of respect and fear.
Džumhur is simply not in the bubble where this is going to affect him. He is cheerfully punching above his weight with an instagram superstar girlfriend who he can't stop raving about and who he views as a lucky star that has opened the door to success.

I believe he will step out there, unaffected by fear or respect for anything much except his own current enjoyment of life and sharpened sense of destiny, and as a result the young lion will beat the heroic but crumbly old lion, in other words Damir will put rafa to the sword probably in 4 sets.

Džumhur to win a set - currently 2-1 on Sportsbook

More chance of squeezing 18 Vannesa Feltz's into a phonebox than Džumhur beating Nadal. but good post, to be fair I would I would have said the same thing about Fognini beating him at the US Open couple of years ago, before he did.

The second set was key, Damir did at that stage look like he was going to make a fight of it and he played some great shots.

But once Nadal had the second set, it was one way traffic. Ah well, thought it was worth a punt at the price.

Safe home Damir.
