MugTP is back with two events in Europe. WTA goes into full Asian swing with three events on the continent, the biggest being Tokyo which has most of the top players participating.
These threads are weekly threads with just tennis talk: match talk, past, current or upcoming events in tennis etc. Spamming (including muggy politics talk) and general sports talk can be done elsewhere such as the usual megathreads, current one is called S/OT 5.

Cirstea broke with a shot left that was clearly going in, makes you wonder if it explains why she's #494 in the world of something else...

She is, can't remember what it was now, I read about it like a month ago.

Basically it's a pure muggery. She's playing to try and qualify for Singapore, which there is 0% chance she will qualify given how she's playing and just wasting her time.

She's not the first, and I dunno why players ever do this, and can be so poorly advised to not do this. She won't win another match all season she's playing, wtf is the point?

I think it's a knee injury, something is torn iirc.

It's not exactly the same as with Thiem last season, who just overplayed rather than being injured, but it gets the same results and you'd think she'd know better.

I don't really get what goes through a players mind. Like I really want to make Singapore, but she would have to be seriously deluded to think she can make it now surely? So what's she hoping, that 1 day it magically gets better? It's also really poor advice that someone doesn't tell her this is futile and you're wasting your time, but maybe it doesn't help there that she doesn't have a coach, and her family is her team.

And the weirdest thing is this is actually quite common. It's not a 1 off that this is happening.
