... and we're done with tennis in Europe for a while, so we can do stuff during the day for the next five weeks if we wish. Lots of big names missing this week due to injuries (Murray, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Sharapova, Azarenka), but hopefully there will still be good tennis and lots of opportunities for us to make wettquotens. Good luck!
These threads are weekly threads with just tennis talk: match talk, past, current or upcoming events in tennis etc. Spamming (including muggy politics talk) and general sports talk can be done elsewhere such as the usual megathreads, current one is called S/OT 5.

Lol at that game from Woz.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:15 PM BST
That was a lot of frustration from Woz too. You sometimes see petulance swings from her. But she was flat out smashing the net with her racket there.

Svitolina beat her dropping 6 games earlier in the year morrillo, no reason she couldn't do that again.

I actually don't like the way she's playing this so far, but she's still in the lead.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:18 PM BST
For me Svitolina has been too passive, she can step it on the gas more than this, and has been this year when playing at her best. She did this in Dubai. One way for her to lose is if it comes an out and out physical contest.

But then she's still ahead, so what do I know.
Report morrillo August 13, 2017 7:18 PM BST
Svit isn't doing much here and Wozzy is gifting heavy.
Report morrillo August 13, 2017 7:19 PM BST

At 5*-4 deuce she was talking like Wozniacki was leading. Now after Svitolina wins set, her and Annie K are questioning if Svitolina who I assume most people favoured can keep it up.

Report bobweenit August 13, 2017 7:34 PM BST
in her head wozz is a 1/10 shot 4 most matchesLove
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:34 PM BST
No more digging to be done atm until next band of information comes out, which hard to know when it will come.

I would say it's pretty unlikely she plays the US Open, but without full facts very hard to tell.

Sharapova also very hard to tell. I can't remember Sharapova pretty much every playing the grand slam after withdrawing from all the warm ups like this, but she also could potentially play Q for warm up matches which normally not been an option to her. So history suggests no, but her statements and activities suggest yes. But then the latter also suggested she would play Cincy, and she didn't.
Report bobweenit August 13, 2017 7:35 PM BST
what was her injury that she has been troubled with?
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:36 PM BST
Better from Svitolina that game.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:36 PM BST
I think it's right forearm right (or is it left?). I forget which, one of the Sharapova fans can probably tell you for sure.
Report bobweenit August 13, 2017 7:36 PM BST
not a bad time from pova to come out of the shadows and win a slam
Report bobweenit August 13, 2017 7:36 PM BST
I might have a dabble
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:37 PM BST
Very hard to see her doing that. She's played 1 match in about 4 months by the time the US Open starts.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:38 PM BST
Also even if she plays, her body holding up seems pretty questionable. I assume if she plays she will go off about 25s, and it's deserved imo.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:38 PM BST
Much, much better from Svitolina all of a sudden.
Report bobweenit August 13, 2017 7:40 PM BST
yeah but with her being female I always assume the practise they get with males behind the scenes is tougher than the WTA she will be readyGrin
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:41 PM BST
She hasn't looked good enough in her matches to suggest she can just come back and win a grand slam with nothing.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:42 PM BST
Svitolina exceptional now.
Report morrillo August 13, 2017 7:42 PM BST
What a poor performance against Svit from Wozzy. She's bloody useless in finals
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:42 PM BST
She will always be artificially under priced a bit too in this field. Big name in a field lacking big names with no Serena, and a perception of anyone can win will lead to money going on her if she plays.
Report n88uk August 13, 2017 7:43 PM BST
Sam Smith turnaround now. Saying can barely believe what we're seeing. Except if we watched Dubai which went virtually the same way as this match so far.

Did make me lol when you said earlier Svitolina doesn't do a lot really given who she was playing.

Report morrillo August 13, 2017 8:07 PM BST
Svit in the fist set was doing nothing. I thought she was tired. I made a bad decision laying svit. I lost on the player I knew would lose. It happens when you lay and then the other gowl decides to go into self destruct mode. Svit upped it and deserves to make 0-6 feel like a mug by giving her a 0-6 in the final set of the tourno
