Report Wesdag April 25, 2018 9:54 PM BST
Nadal on clay at the moment is like how Mike Tyson was in his heyday.

Opponents are beaten before they step out on court.

Yep, the only thing stopping an 11th RG is injury.

Report bb66 April 26, 2018 10:38 AM BST
btw, wasn't he ALWAYS injured, when he lost a match? I can't remember otherwise, it became his habit
Report mesmerised April 26, 2018 12:40 PM BST
As did making excuses for the biggest losses in your career, said he lost Wimbledon08 because he was scared from the thrashing a month earlier at Roland Garros. Said he was the better player v Delpo at USO09 for 4 of the 5 sets. Lots of subtle classless comments from Fed over the years that the media don't report.

Choosing to miss the French Open for the rest of his career will reflect very badly in years to come, it's not he has no chance. There is no doubt if Nadal wasnt around, he'd never skip the clay season, it's all about avoiding him and keeping the h2h healthy for his legacy status, which is really quite sad tbh.
Report mesmerised April 26, 2018 12:40 PM BST
it's not like he has no chance*
Report bb66 April 26, 2018 1:00 PM BST
It's only in the mind of those grasping at straws to find sth where Nadull outperforms Fed, that Fed would care about the h2h vs Nadull thinking of his legacy.
Report mesmerised April 26, 2018 1:18 PM BST
He was just lucky he was born in 1981 and not 1986 when Nadal was, imagine if they were born in the same year, do you really think it'd currently be 20:16 in slams, of course not. And he wouldn't currently hold a record for longest Number 1 either, his decline started when Nadal and Novak came good.

Moreover, imagine if there had been 2 clay court slams rather than 2 hard court slams, the Slam totals would be reversed and then some.

The tour is weighted against clay court players and favours those on hard, there are 6 masters events on hard, 3 on clay, 2 slams on hard, 1 on clay, and the World Tour finals is always hard indoords favouring Federer's tennis when really the surface and location if need be, should be alternated.

Nadal has a better slam conversion rate in slams - 1 slam win every 3.19 events played, Federer = 1 slam every every 3.6 events played.
Nadal has a better Masters conversion rate - 1 masters win every 3.5 events played, Federer = 1 Masters every 4.8 events played
And he won an Olympic Gold on hard court, Federer hasn't on either grass on hard. And he's won

Not many areas where Federer has outperformed Nadal, and no straw clutching based on all thatLaugh

If he wasn't for knee problems 6 or so years ago, he wouldn't have had so many first week exits at Wimbledon whereas before hand he was making finals almost every year.
Report bb66 April 26, 2018 2:13 PM BST
there are much more clay court tournaments than on Fed's best surface, grass. In former times, 3 GS tournaments were played on grass, imagine what the GS count would be then
Report mesmerised April 26, 2018 3:12 PM BST
Nobody likes Grass, it's not real tennis.
Federer likes quick, fast surfaces, plenty of fast hard courts, his style suits it, Nadal's suits clay.

I've always said the US Open or Aussie open should alternate between clay and hard at least.

Rafa 1.1 atm. Is that a good price? I'm confident he will beat Djokovic but don;t know much about Tsitsipas.

I normally stick money on Rafa at the semi-final stage at Roland Garros after somebody on here predicted he was going to be almost unbeatable years ago. Sets things up nicely for Royal Ascot.
Report n88uk June 10, 2021 11:46 PM BST
The only way he will lose the final imo is if he goes so long vs Djokovic that he's heavily weakened for that final, otherwise can't see those guys beating him. The price vs Djokovic has no value at all though, this must be the shortest he's been vs Djokovic for a long time, and not really sure why?
Report scandanavian_haven June 11, 2021 12:26 AM BST
Nadal is half the price what he was v Novak in the final last year, maybe the fact Djokovic has played 2 long matches in the 4th and quarters and played after Nadal's quarter into the night so less recovery time.

would prefer Djokovic to win, really Nadal should be around 1.6
Report BARROWBOY June 11, 2021 1:29 PM BST

First time I have lost a bet on Rafa at Roland Garros. Really surprised me as all the vibes seemed to to suggest Djokovic might not be fully fit and Rafa has won 105 out of 108 matches at that venue. Has Djokovic ever beaten him on clay before; if I'm reading the graph right he went out to 14.0 to win the title after losing first set? Just confirms there is no such thing as a certainly when betting.
