Another tournament, another volume of tennis talk ... ATP Miami has a less cool field than Acapulco a few weeks ago, but hopefully we'll still see some exciting tennis and a loss in under 45 minutes from Bernard Tomic.

These threads are weekly threads with just tennis talk: match talk, past, current or upcoming events in tennis etc. Spamming (including muggy politics talk) and general sports talk can be done elsewhere such as the usual megathreads, current one is called Spam/OT thread 2.

Her only real win con vs the top names is them playing like crap, unless they are Radwanska.
Report wisewords April 1, 2017 8:03 PM BST
She's the 2nd best player on tour right now. She's gonna be world #1 again in 2018. She will win at least 2 singles Grand Slam titles in her career. the end.

She owned Masha at USO 2014.

First part is rubbish. Second part could happen. Third part won't happen, 1 max.
Report wisewords April 1, 2017 8:04 PM BST
The only reason Konta won today is because Wozzy played below her usual level due to a nagging foot injury. It was clear to see.

2 miniumum.

Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:04 PM BST
Yer but Masha didn't play that well. That is also probably the only actual contender Woz has ever beaten in a grand slam.

She beat Sharapova before that too, but it was mug Masha days where Woz was favourite to beat he anyway.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:06 PM BST
She beat Muguruza this week for example Caramba, but because Muguruza is mugging. You could see even in losing that first set why if Muguruza plays well it's big problems for Wozniacki.

Problem is in say grand slams when you are talking like SF, you're generally only going to play top players playing well.
Report caramba April 1, 2017 8:06 PM BST
she absolutely goated in her two USO wins against Masha, let's give her some credit. The other two wins against her were more Masha mugging.

The second one was probably her best match ever at grand slams.

The first one Masha was a mug at that point in time.
Report caramba April 1, 2017 8:09 PM BST
we've had that discussion before, Masha played really well in that 2010 match.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:09 PM BST
The first one I backed Woz at odds on to beat Sharapova which is revealing in how I rated Sharapova at that time. Sharapova crumbled to the first half decent player she played at grand slams at that time.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:10 PM BST
I believe Woz was like 1.72-1.73.
Report caramba April 1, 2017 8:11 PM BST
Sharapova's 2010 was much like Vika's 2015, played well but got unlucky with Slam draws which stopped her from climbing in the rankings.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:11 PM BST
Anyway I will bb later if this discussion is going to be continued. Just write on and I will respond after dinner.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:12 PM BST
The thing is though I wouldn't count Vika 2015 as Vika playing well though Caramba. Like she played well in patches, but had no consistency, and there were clear problems in her game, fitness from match to match being one of them, but it's not like Vika was at the top of her game.

Top 5. I think she will find clay harder though. That forehand is gonna break down a whole lot more on clay imo.

Report n88uk April 1, 2017 8:59 PM BST
But obviously R1 RG, R2 Wimbledon is dire regardless.
Report n88uk April 1, 2017 9:04 PM BST
The way the tour is she can easily edge even higher than that too. If you think about it the only reason she's not #1 comfortably in the race is because she missed the Middle Eastern swing injured.
