ranked 139 at the beginning of the year having no Points to defend till end of March due to illness 1 year ago

breakthrough season starts in Doha with qualies, beating Donald Young(#3), Marco Cecchinato (3 sets) and Matthias Bachinger, possibly meeting his mate Gulbis (both coached by Bresnik) in rd 1.

1st points of the season assured

lucky draw meeting another qualifier in rd 1 (Gojowczyk), #6 Kohlschreiber probably waiting in rd 2

5-7, 0-6 not what was to be expected, maybe a slight nibble somewhere and saving himself for Melbourne qualies to grab the big paycheque looming. Still 12 pts accumulated for ranking

Gojowczyk showed some quality by beating Kohlschreiber 7-6,7-6 too

seeded #17 for qualies, 1st playing de Voest, likely Opponent in rd2 Bachinger and in rd3 Klizan (#2) or A.Beck, he should make it, fingers crossed

He will never win a slam.
By:

When: 08 Jan 14 11:27
come on, give the boy some credit, never winning a slam puts him in a row with about 99% of players ever reaching top 100, he is top 20 material for sure!

Turned around match being break down in 2nd as well as in 3rd set, winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, next to meet Bachinger

When: 10 Jan 14 07:51

finally a 2-0 over Klizan (2,5); though Klizan got a LL ticket there is no secured LL slot in a GS, so it is a full credited win.

1st round opponent is Sousa (#51), 2nd rd would be an out of form Anderson or Vesely in the section of Haas and Berdych, let's look if he can surprise
By:

When: 13 Jan 14 05:54
Sousa beaten 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3), was a break up in 1st set alsoHappy. 1st GS tournament ever already a success, best ranking ever around 110 assured.

2nd rd opponent: Vesely leads Anderson 2-1
By:

When: 13 Jan 14 07:37
Anderson has turned it around from 0-2
By:
bb66
When: 15 Jan 14 12:26
Anderson won 3-0 (4,3,4) he was the deciding bit better, but Thiem played  well making his 1st slam a full success. 70 ranking pts will make him advance around 115, ready to launch into top 100 for a place in RG main draw

proof of mental strength in a server's battle with 7-6(4), 7-6(1), fav tomorrow vs Slovak Sikora, who beat Gojowczyk on retiring

6-1, 7-5 with a slight hick up in set 2 giving an early leading break away, drawn to Nieminen in rd 1, winner probably will face Mugray in rd 2

When: 12 Feb 14 16:04
good win over Nieminen (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) 2/16 bps converted, 0/6 in 2nd set, where he had his chances too; saved 7/8 pts during the match, 86% conversion of 1st serve, but only 54% of 1st serves in.

Well on the planned way, 65 pts added to the tally sees him on the brink of top 100 already

After a nervous start that made him trailing 2 breaks quickly he showed why he is considered to be Austria's biggest talent for decades, but lost 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

ranked #99, within top 100 and Austrian #2 for the 1st time, race not up yet, but I suppose he'll be around 60.

Upcoming schedule probably IW and Miami qualies with Dallas challenger in between

my only question mark is whether he's muscling the ball too much. his groundies don't seem quite fluid enough. i think with that comes injuries and getting tight at big moments.

we'll see though.

up to now fitness was the main lacking issue in his career

Playing Acapulco qualies too, 1st round Zimbabwian Garangangay (#345), set to meet Goffin in the 2nd and final round

lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-7(1) after failing to convert 3 single bps for a double break lead in 3rd set, not winning one point on serve in tb, I wonder if there was a niggle. Adding 10 pts to mthe tally won't Change ranking significantly.

Goffin now playing Kubot, winner will probably face Gulbis, who is coached by Bresnik like Thiem.

Btw, Mugzer faces Nieminen on his comeback after almost 5 month of injury break (shoulder)

With you, not for the first time, asking if he was bothered by a niggle/injury after a loss, you start to sound like them Nadal fanboys who always say Rafa only ever loses if injured Whoops

where have I done it before?Shocked I only did analysis of match stats, weak serve stats and giving away an almost commanding lead gave me reasons to do.
