I agree to some extend that you shouldn't be besties with everyone, but Cirstea being good friends with Ivanovic is not the cause of her not doing much on tour.
Having a bestie or or two is not gonna harm you. Errani and Vinci have done pretty darn well since they started playing doubles together and became super besties.

all you have to do to be ranked like that is to play well in 2 tournaments over a whole year, Paszek was the best example
if you are lucky and win a slam without beating a top 15 player you can even manage to sneak a top10 spot like Fa(r)toli

Bartoli had a top 10 year end ranking only in 2007 (10th) and 2011 (9th), she was way better then than from 2012 on, when she was nothing but crap

4 year anniversary of this thread coming up tomorrow. Let's hope Sorana has another great run here just like 4 years ago, but it will no doubt be tough since her bestie won't be there. Sorana plays Wozniak today in qualies.
