Federer vs Nadal on your birthday....

Does it get any better than that?

If Carlesberg did birthdays..........

All I want is Nadal to pick up his tenth title and it will cap off a great birthday LaughLaugh

Same Old Same Old. Rafa will pound Federer's backhand until it collapses. Fed has still not found a way to deal with this strategy

If federer can reproduce the quality of tennis he produced against chokovic (who stil blinked at times when it mattered despite the great fightback) he has to be some chance against Rafa who seems way below his best despite the psychological scarring nadal has inflicted on Federer here in the past.

I personally think the market should be much closer just as I though thought the Federder chockocih market was way too far apart and I can't see that much  difference in the match at all.
Here's hoping for another classic and as much I love watching Nadal play I have to lay him for something at the odds and hope he gets down early so I can back him back for a good result and have both of them running for me and then I can sit back and enjoy hopefully an absolute classic.
Roger will never get a better chance to take Rafa at Roland Garros I would think and you can bet he knows it.

Novak is a WAYyyyy better player from the baseline. The two straight sets victory against nadal is a clear testament to that. Nadal couldnt match novak from behind the baseline. Novak and Del Potro have been very successful in outplaying nadal from the baseline. Against Novak, Federer s backhand was imperious. The double handed backhand from Novak to Rogers backhand is a tougher nut to crack than Rafas Forehand crosscourt to Federer's backhand. Solid serving and clutch play from federer and improved tactical play will see the suisse maestro lifting his second coupe des mosquetaires beating the king of c-lay nadal. King of clay or clay king..? Wait and watch when the dust settles

If Fed can win today it will top everything he has ever achieved and I hope he does it.

I have greened out evens on both sides because I think Rafa will blast him off the court but I would love Fed to win!

Nadal's gamestyle is basically created perfectly to destroy Federer.

You will notice today that Nadal will serve to Federer's backhand on the big points and Nadal's forehand right into Federer's weak side will be the killer today.

Federer did look good vs Djokovic but that is a much easier match up for Federer than it is vs a below par Nadal. His game is not suited to playing such a good strong left-hander.

I think that Nadal will romp home today and pick his 10th GS up here at Roland Garros closing the gap to Federer to 6.

How I would love this to happen and I hope we can see a repeat in Wimbleodon later this month. Federer v Nadal rivalry has been re-ignited.

To match Novak from behind the baseline is proof enough that Roger will outplay nadal from the baseline. In the last 7 months Federer is the only player to outplay novak from the baseline. Nadal couldn't match Novak. Novak thrashed him twice on clay in straight sets. Novak serves wayy better than Nadal. Nadal will be beaten today.

Do you not get it?? Federer v Nadal is a different and tougher match up for Federer than Federer v Djokovic. Djokovic v Nadal is a tougher match up for Nadal than Nadal v Federer.

So you can throw out the window the fact that Federer has beaten Djokovic in the last round and you can throw out the fact that Djokovic has beaten Nadal the last 4 times.

Here you will see Nadal playing to Federer's backhand and naturally that is the area Nadal will attack due to his left handed style of play.

In order for Federer to get anywhere near Nadal he would need his backhand to be playing a level or two better than it was vs Djokovic and that is the best I have seen it for a long time.

Federer will still leak UE's at important times and on the big points Nadal will always 100% go to Federer's backhand and punish him. It is a fact.

you have to love the mugs on the forum...........

One minute Djokavic was the best thing sliced bread and was unbeatable. Fedrer destroyed him with some of the best tennis ever and Novak had no anaswer. Now, against Nadal everyone is saying Fedrer is playing a tougher opponent LaughLaughLaugh

Djoka has smashed nadal in every clay court final this year and he lost to fedrer because fedrer was outplaying him in every department. In theory it should be easier against nadal and not tougher, if fedrer keeps playing the way he is

oh dear special one, that's not the way it works.

Just cos A beats B and B beats C, doesn't mean A beats C. (clear as mud?)

it's all about matchups and Fed's backhand will, as usual, not stand up to the constant barrage from Nadal's forehand.

Fed's only chance is hoping his serve is equally as good, if not better, than against the joker.

You are correct - that is not how it works. Because the same mugs on this forum were saying Djokvoic would wipe the floor with federer and that Djokovic would win this tourney........

The same mugs on this forum saying that nadal was unbeatable on clay until he played djokavic.....

The same mugs that said fedrer is finished...........

Why you keep going on about feds backhand is beyond me..... one of the best in the business, proved in this tourney especially against djokovic.

the-special-one is correct. more than nadal s forehand, djoker's backhand s more lethal in terms of breaking down federer's backhand. the marked improvement in federer' s game is that he outplayed novak from the baseline. he toyed with novak almost. look at the clutch serving. the aces in crucial moments. Nadal CLEARLY struggled against big servers and atm federer s the biggest server there is.

NADAL vs DJOKOVIC

Forehand - Nadal (very doubtful though)
BAckhand - Nole
Serve - Nole
Netplay - tie
Baseline - Nole
Current form and level of tennis - CLEARLY nole
Intangibles - Nole or maybe a tie

Nadal might have been better than nole in the PAST. He is no better now.

Federer outplayed Nole in every department, especially from the baseline. Nole struggles from the baseline only against two players this frenchopen and that is against Delpotro and Federer.

Federer has improved his movement timing and coverage so much so that he can beat novak. Convincingly he did!!

I wonder HOW could Nadal be a bad match up for federer. In the past maybe he was. Not relevant now.... not at all relevant now..

fed's backhand was good enough against joker because it was nearly all same height and pace (flat crosscourt) so all he had to do was use jokers power and direct it.

Nadal's forehand will have tons of topspin making it jump high and difficult for single handed backhand and hence we should see a lot of mistimed bankhands from fed today.

Right then.......  remind me of the head to head again between these two players? Cause obviousally from what you are saying, with that strategy of nadal, fedrer must have never won a single match against him.

last 10 is 8-2 in favour of nadal. The 2 fed victories was high altitude madrid and london. Spin less effective in those 2 events.

Anyway, we'll see.

Nadal was unbeatable on clay until djokvic came and not only won, but destroyed him. So - the whole 'nadal on clay' theory is well out the window.

nadal does clear the net by a big margin. could be similarly argued that federer will have a lot of time to take it on his forehand. the point i am trying to make is that on any surface novak tries to break down federer s backhand. he simply couldn't break it down in the semis. seemingly federer has worked on it. clearly federer has worked on it imo. or else it would have broken down. It was pretty good against monfils, novak, tipsarevic and Stan. It is likely to be good against nadal assuming federer is aggressive and takes a lot on his forehand. Maybe the height of nadal s forehand could still trouble. But therein lies federer s tactics. He might have an ace or two up his sleeve. For sure he needs to come right out of the blocks firing and piling up on the pressure on nadal.

my point is that nadal may win or fedrer may win. I cant call it because its two of the best tennis players around. However, the odds on fedrer are pathetic so i will have a small punt on fedrer just because of teh value. Otherwise, its a final to enjoy watching and nothing else.
