It's not a lesson I exactly needed tbh. The umpires are under instruction from the authorities. In the same way in football they're probably told to ignore shirt pulling at every corner if it is "minor." But it always begs the question - how many rules are there to be broken that are "immaterial?"

dont really know where the excitement has been this last 2 sets game would have been 3-0 if it was not for rain ,it upset his ocd and took him a while to organize his thoughts,he was probably trying to work out how many raindrops had fallen on the court or summit, joker backers were asking a lot for nadal to throw away such a chance to grab the full set .granted thye joker has got himself back where he was 2 years ago but nadal is a tough nut to crack .

But they should bart, would make the match more enjoyable to watch. Little betting opportunities anyway in a Rafa match, back him at the start and collect when its over, but if he wouldn't have 30 seconds to think about where to serve match could be more interesting

Aside from the second set, it's been a pretty poor performance from Djokovic. Needed to start hot and get on a run, not get stuck in long grinding rallies.

That point sums up Djokovic's match: numerous short balls to kill the point, doesn't get anywhere near enough penetration on them and ends up losing the point.

Report jsimpson67. September 14, 2010 2:52 AM BST
depends how you time him and djok anyway

because you dont start the clock as soon as the ball bounces twice, you give them a couple of seconds there....and you dont stop the clock when the ball is struck on the serve

hes at the line like djok usually within 25seconds, but its there where they take another 10 at least, which is where the problem arises, because the umps have maybe stopped there clock when they get to the line

Report vila's sister September 14, 2010 2:54 AM BST
simpson, the rules are pretty clear on this:

Start Stop Watch. The chair umpire must start the stopwatch after the ball goes out of play or when the players are ordered to play.

Play shall be continuous, except that a maximum of twenty-five (25) seconds may elapse from the moment the ball goes out of play at the end of one point to the time the ball is stuck for the next point.

eh, he played excellent five-six games after the rainbreak, throw away the momentum after his first game in 3rd set and after that no more than ok...but well, how poorly he played pre us open indeed he played a good match, but no more than that.

Good for the future however to see Novak play tennis again at decent level, if he only can find his serve again.
