Alright fellas, I've been betting on tennis for a few years with mixed success with the bookies, thought I might try my hand on betfair after all this time.
Although I like to think I have a vast knowledge of tennis and can pick out enough winners, my patience and discilpline lets me down time and time again. So I thought I would start this thread in the hope it might keep me in check and maintain my discilpline.
I am starting off with a £1000 bank and I am willing to use as much as 25% of that bank on one bet. Maybe a bit high but lets see. I am not shy in backing short or long odds.
I am just going to experiment over the next couple of weeks - nothing major. Then see how I go for the first few months of next year. Might come back to posting my bets if I lose my discilpline in the future.

I think you have made a very promising result this year. Well done. Your profits really make me believe that betting could be a very good way to increase montly/yearly profits and it depends mostly on skill than luck.
However, i really feel that you are makng a big mistake leaving on your account only 1000. You should leave at least 2000 to start new year on the higher level, which you fully deserve.
Good luck

Last thing Jaap - If i were You i would emerge pre - match betting skills more than try to learn trading. I feel vision of future life on centre courts of ATP tournaments is far more exciting than life in a room with a 3 TVs and computers :)

I will still be working full time, just gonna try to trade some of my bets around that, but still I will continue to bet pre match and just let it ride.

Thought I might as well try some things about before the new season starts. Paris and the Masters cup have always been poor events for me, so thought I might as well experiment there and see what things I need to work on for the new season.

Yeh backed Mayer @ 10, layed Murray 2-0 @ 1.32 and traded out Mayer @ 4.4 after the second set for profit. Still got 2.66 on Murray outright pending, not sure when or if to trade out. How's your day going ?

I think 1k is a pretty good starting point. Luckily for me with my aggressive staking, I had a decent start so was able to build from there.
I think a good start to your "new bank" is always important. Too often I threw my money away at the start of my new bank and was unable recover, but here I was able to steadily build, and go from there. I belive that by honestly giving solid reasons for your bets helps. Before I would just place my bets without any particular reason, but now I have reailsed you need some solid facts behind your bets.

I would guess that the Sexy Czech has been my most profitable player
I actually love him regardless. :x
One of the few players that has character and plays a different style of tennis. Hope he wins the Davis cup, someone like him deserves it.

Had Bulls on handicap last night, was surprised it was evens or so for +11.5, shoulda backed them outright so a bit peeved. Think Boredo can stop the Nandwagon tonight ?

The Cavs in Cleve. Struggling to see any value in the tennis today :( But got my Rufin pick still pending which was carried over, just gone a break down to Chela early on X-(

Jaap - sorry, ive been in my mother's for a dinner so im answering now, about starting bank. I know that 1k is a good starting bank, but you should start from the higher level to notice higher profits. For example - youll start with 2k next year produce around 14k what i wish you so much a then start 2011 with 4k. I thing starting with the same amount is not a good idea because it stops your progress. However, that is your challenge and i can only write what i would do i were you, the final decisions belongs to you of course.

My opnion about you its that u have a huge tennis knowledgement. Maybe even more than some pro tennis traders. Ur money management is a bit too risky though.
In my opnion u should not withdraw ur winnnings, u are a succesful punter, and it will be a huge step backwards to do so.

Well I have already withdrew the winnings, thanks for your put though, personally just going to experiment with 1k for the rest of the year and see how I go. May increase my bank in the new year.
My best time of year? The early part of the indoor season has always been good to me where the punter fails to make the transition from outdoors to indoors.

Very well done Jaap. Experimenting over the last couple of weeks is a smart idea, especially as you say that Paris and TMC haven't been good to you in the past. Enjoy the off-season, and good luck next year.

Thanks for all your tips over the last few months Jaap, your advice and has certainly helped my betting to progress. Good luck with trading - personally I find it potentially 10 times more profitable and potentially 50 times more risky than pre-match betting!

Valuev's odds are all wrong.. yesterday i had a horrific day, should've been on £0 but a 1.01 got gubbed and im on 137..
I want £300 then i can withdraw £100 and the rest goes on valuev

Haye will crush the ogre.
McChicken_Sandwich 26 Oct 11:44
Yep, will take the freak to school.
I Win All The Tim 26 Oct 11:54
What are you basing that on exactly? who has haye fought even close to valuev's league? He's had ONE heavyweight fight, against monte barrat, hardly a world beater. Valuev is a brilliant athlete, he can go out in the 12th as fresh as he was in the first, he wont get knocked down and he wont get outboxed by the shorter, weaker chinned opponent with NO stamina.
Watch Haye vs Thompson to get an idea of the mans lack of fitness
Jason**26 Oct 11:55
Valuev is a brilliant athlete
Gracefully gliding across the ring
He's been beaten before, just because he's a freak of nature, doesn't mean he's unbeatable. Haye is class, too quick, too powerful, too intelligent.
I Win All The Tim 26 Oct 12:03
Watch haye vs thompson then tell me the same thing.. He is not intelligent.
He wont knock valuev out, he knows that, so he'll try and be "intelligent" and attempt what chagiev and holyfield done, outbox him for 12rounds. which is fine.. but not if you're haye, he simply doesn't have the skills or stamina to last 12rounds with this man. He also doesn't have the chin to withstand the constant jabbing of valuev, probably the best jabber in the game.
dlarssonf 26 Oct 12:04
jason although haye might win , how can you say he is class. An average boxer at best in one of the worst era's of heavyweight boxing ever.
I Win All The Tim 26 Oct 12:12
You people are really under estimating Valuev.
I Agree on one thing, if he wasn't gifted with his freakish size then he would've never turned pro.
HOWEVER, he is a smart man, he is almost impossible to knock out, and unless you can find a way to stop his jab hitting you, you're a dead man walking. Haye will NOT find a way to dodge that jab
I guess these deserve a bump :) Class.

Admittedly i was completely wrong, didn't expect haye to be smart enough to use chagiev's tactics, didn't think his style suited that kind of fight.. also thought valuev would've been far better. The only result i couldn't see was haye by decision, but i was completely wrong.
Although i think valuev probably won by 1 or 2 rounds, and 4rounds to haye seemed a very odd decision, it didn't go anything like i expected i was completely wrong.
However, i didn't get my bank up to £300 i lost the majority on tennis ;)

Ayer 12 Nov 01:27 lol rome you sound sincerely worried
Atleast there was one decent guy around with good knowledge about tennis who shared his thoughts and even he gets banned, Maybe if I know the reason as what went wrong, Probably we can request betfair to consider reinstating Jaap...

Its me. Haven't had a tennis bet since the Aus Open - got a new job and just haven't got the time anymore. I haven't even been following the results so need to brush up on my tennis before the French Open and Wimbledon.

No seriously jaap how have things been? Been betting much since last november? Are you still just betting from the start or are you doing any in play trades or backs? Hope all is well!

Average first day. In profit though but a poor card.
Day 2 promises to be better.
My bets and reasoning are already up. Your welcome to discuss them - for or against.
