he says he has recovered from his wrist injury which forced his retirement last week. But assuming his injury was real, can a player actually fully recover from such an injury within 5 days? motivation wont be a question as he's playing at home and needs points for London. But then again would he have played if it wasn't for those two factors?? The slower court may favour Montanes but then again will he be motivated?

All very good points Lochinvar and not reflected in the price. Given he was injured recently you would expect a higher price on Tsonga. May be a lot of people know he was not really injured. Either way its nt one I'm going to bet on pre-match.

i hope tsonga gets bet - i hate the filthy**

Did you just say a "N" word?
Report LOCHINVAR November 10, 2009 3:56 PM GMT
yup informa best not bet before match - even if montanes wins first set tsonga could still prob be laid at 1.6s :D . i do remember it was to do with his left wrist so not the one he holds the racquet with and as you say if it was a serious injury that sort of information always seeps out to support staff who well you know ;)
Report Informa November 10, 2009 3:59 PM GMT
Tsonga is the kind of nutter who would play with a broken arm - especially if there is a chance of a place in London. That said, a few good painkillers should see him through. It's definitely one to watch before you plunge in.
Report LOCHINVAR November 10, 2009 4:05 PM GMT
actually im putting a £50 lay on tsonga at 1.16 with the intention of trading out- centre court very slow and could favour Montanes against a probable 85% tsonga.
Report Manfred November 10, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
has tsonga ever lost to a grinder?
Report super_teddy November 10, 2009 4:26 PM GMT
Tsonga won their only previous meeting which was on clay, the slightly slow hard court here won't exactly be an advantage for Montanes.

Montanes has been quite impressive lately, and has done ok indoors when you wouldn't have expected him too. But a motivated Tsonga is a step too far IMO. Although the Spainard does pretty well against big servers, Jo will trouble him with his change up in tactics.

not looking optimistic for my 1.16 lay :^0 - montanes has done NOTHING on tonga's serve.... 4-1* and not even 1 point....
Report super_teddy November 10, 2009 6:23 PM GMT
This is domination, Montanes has zero chance unless Tsonga starts spraying the ball out. But Jo is too strong on serve for Montanes to get a foot hold.
Report arkman November 10, 2009 6:26 PM GMT
problem will be if wonga start to become over confident...he's done that many times in the recent past.....may be not today
Report super_teddy November 10, 2009 6:27 PM GMT
Yes he has, but the problem there is that Montanes has nothing to hurt Tsonga.

Even if Tsonga gets complacent and starts hitting more UE's, his will always get him out of a hole because Montanes can't do anything to him.
Report LOCHINVAR November 10, 2009 6:28 PM GMT
by the time wonga gets over confident he will be leading 6-1 5-1

Report DStyle November 10, 2009 6:41 PM GMT
sorry - hit a forehand - naturally you can't drive volley a ball on the bounce

Defending champion here - highest level top 3 material in the world playing his favorite venue on home soil versus clay court specialist who won 6 return points in total so far. 1,05 is a correct price.
Report crikeys. November 10, 2009 6:52 PM GMT
you just get the feeling he's fragile dont you even if he gets close to getting broke it may open the floodgates
Report keepgreeningout November 10, 2009 6:53 PM GMT
You make some good points, Jeff. However, I have lost count of the amount have time that the Frenchman has struck the ball into the net, under little or no pressure! :0
Report super_teddy November 10, 2009 6:54 PM GMT
Tsonga not making a lot of errors at all, and his defence is good enough to deal with Montanes. Much better this set from the Spainard but Jo is too much.

When he plays near his top level like tonight he's way, way too good for most people, let alone a nothing clay courter.
Report thetitan November 10, 2009 6:54 PM GMT
2-0 is short at 1.2x imo
Report jeff tarango November 10, 2009 6:55 PM GMT
KGO Tsonga is the mentally strongest french player :-)
Report jeff tarango November 10, 2009 6:57 PM GMT
Could go to a tiebreak but can not see Tsonga win that tiebreak given his tiebreak record and this match development.
Report thetitan November 10, 2009 6:57 PM GMT
on BP's, i agree...tsonga is clutch with all his aces and generally clutch play

can be a mug front runner tho - just look at him vs clement

Report keepgreeningout November 10, 2009 6:57 PM GMT
He is mentally strong, Jeff, yeah :)
He has struck the ball into the net a lot. If he does that on BP down, then 2nd set will belong to the Spaniard :)
Report crikeys. November 10, 2009 6:58 PM GMT
becuse he's not genetically not french
Report Birchola November 10, 2009 6:59 PM GMT
I dont think a set will ever belong to Montanes when playing against Tsonga even on clay.
Report jeff tarango November 10, 2009 6:59 PM GMT
First he needs to be break point down which is unlikely looking at the points won on return from Montanes. Secondly one of Tsonga´s biggest assets is to raise his game on the big points and it will be even more difficult to win a return point on break point for Montanes
