BELGIUM'S Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse will not face suspensions despite falling foul of drug-testing rules.

The disciplinary commission of the Flemish Doping Tribunal (VDT) has instead requested a reprimand for the duo.

Twenty-year-old Wickmayer, the world number 20 who made a stunning run to the US Open semi-finals, was accused of failing on three occasions to fulfil the ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) requirements.

Malisse, 29 and the world 132, missed one drugs test, according to a report.

He is also in contravention of the World Anti-Doping (WADA)

Malisse gewann in seiner Karriere bislang drei Einzeltitel.

US Open semi-finalist Yanina Wickmayer has been handed a one-year ban for falling foul of doping regulations.

Wickmayer was suspended by the Flemish Doping Tribunal (VDT) for failing to fulfill the "whereabouts" requirement for drug testing on three occasions.

The world number 18 from Belgium has denied any wrongdoing. She can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Compatriot Xavier Malisse has also been banned for a year over two similar "whereabouts" testing failures.

Under anti-doping regulations, athletes are obliged to tell national anti-doping authorities where they will be at a chosen hour each day for a three-month period.

Wickmayer has reached the last eight of this week's WTA tournament in Bali.

It was not immediately clear whether the doping tribunal's decision meant she would be prevented by the WTA from playing in Friday's semi-finals.

However, VDT spokesman Koen Uman said the suspension "has immediate effect".

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) said it had not been informed of the suspensions while the women's WTA Tour said it was also unable to comment.

"Before we can comment on doping cases until we have been notified in writing by the Belgian anti-doping agency and that has not happened as yet," an ITF spokesman said.

The VDT said in a statement issued on Thursday that the minimum one-year sanction was a "reasonable and justified" punishment.

Wickmayer has enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2009. Unseeded, she reached the last four at the US Open, having never passed the second round at any previous Grand Slam.

She won her first two tour titles at Estoril in May and Linz last month, earning her a spot in this week's season-ending champions event in Bali.

Malisse, 29, has slipped to 95 in the world rankings, having reached a high of 19 in 2002. He has won three titles in his career.

1 year for failing to fill in your whereabouts and allegedly because the system wasn't working, how ridiculous
Report edy November 6, 2009 10:12 AM GMT
it is. Maybe she could or should've been more concerned about getting that system to work and getting those passwords, but suspending her that long because of a non-working computer system (or accounts) and passwords getting sent to her home address while she's on another continent or at least country is indeed ridiculous

As far as I understand she didn't miss a test, only failed to report correctly where she was going to be
Report edy November 6, 2009 10:43 AM GMT
what I wonder about this whole thing: If she supposedly called them multiple times, why didn't she just supply those places on the phone?

Or why didn't the belgian anti-doping agency call her as one of the prime athletes of the country and remind her there are some dates missing and ask her to just tell them on the phone? Surely she wouldn't have told them to ** off

Can't be that stupidly reliant on some computer system, can they?
Report LazyRamper November 6, 2009 10:56 AM GMT
Also I want to know what not reporting 3 times actually means.

If it's over 3 seperate days over a random period or 3 joined together it's exceedingly petty. If failing to fill in 3 times means she wasn't available for testing for 3 seperate weeks then it's justified and particularly if they occur in weeks she wasn't in competition.
Report edy November 6, 2009 11:01 AM GMT
I think starting this season they have to provide WADA (or the local anti-doping agency) with a location and time where they can be found on each and every day. If you fail to provide those details 3 times (i.e for 3 days) or can not be found 3 times at the specified location at the provided time and WADA happens to want to test you, you get a trial and/or suspension.

E.g earlier this year one of the Bryan's said he had to be careful for the rest of the year as he had already missed 3 appointments.
Report edy November 6, 2009 11:01 AM GMT

Its a pretty ridiculous system imo. She may have been live on tv playing the semi finals of the US open while the belgian anti doping dumb fcks were wondering where she was. These are the same morons that showed up at the funeral of Kevin van Impe's son demanding an immediate test.
