Murray has returned looking like his attitude has regressed rather than progressed.
He's always had the ability, but most of the time he's either too**y or doesn't quite believe his own hype. Lost little boy is what he looks like very often. Not the swagger of a Fed or Nadal, or even a Djoker.
I can see him losing to some nobody before long. Probably not today though, Montanes doesn't quite have the weaponry.

I can't believe so many mugs on here actually spoke of Murray & Fed in the same breath.
Murray had his purple patch & was impressive. But he'll never be anywhere near as amazing as Fed.
A better comparison for Andy is, say......... Safina.

I don't understand what Murray has to gain by playing so passively in tournaments and matches like this. Perfect chance to unleash - if he loses, then so what?
Thought he would have learnt from his grand slam performances this year that this game plan is not going to get the job done against the top players. His best career performances have came when he has taken the ball on and been aggressive i.e vs Nadal in New York, Wawa in New York, Fed in Madrid

No love in the market for Murray all week. Ok so he's not exactly playing well but he's good enough to get past the likes of Montanes playing at quarter capacity.

Not against Montanes indoors that's what I mean, if he'd played someone half decent it would be very wise to back against him, but until now he hasn't.
He will in the next round though.

I disagree, the starting odds indicated that Murray would beat Montanes 9 out of 10 times. Given the way he's been playing of late, I think that's a bit of a tough assumption to accept. Playing like he can he'd beat Montanes 10 out of 10 times, but at his current level he'd come unstuck a couple of times, quite possibly even more than 1 in 10 times.

can you really imagine Murray losing to Montanes on an indoor court however badly he's playing? He does raise his level when he really needs to (e.g. thrid set last night). The only way he would lose would be through injury or something. so he's a a 1.02 shot for me

I didn't have pictures, but why was Murray 1.89 at 6-4 up against Gimeno? If it was because he was holding his back and grimacing, then these people must have never watched a Murray match in their lives.
Even remember looking at the market and he was 1.36 when 6-4 1-0* up. Most bizarre

I'd agree with you earlier in the year Jaap, but his performance during the middle of this year have been poor and littered with too many losses to players he should be beating.

Yeah, don't think he has played an aggressive match since Nadal match in Monte Carlo. Been lucky that mentally or physically weak opponents have folded for him.

What I've seen of him since he's returned he's become even more of a little spoiled brat on court than he was middle of this year. He's due a big big stupid loss, and if he thinks he's immune to those, I think he may have a shock coming very soon.

Even the masters he won I thought he was passive and far too reliant on opp errors.
I agree with all these comments.Havent been impressed with Murray for months.Even the masters he won I thought he was passive and far too reliant on opp errors.
Thats the thing, Fed uses these sort of tournaments to try out a few different shots and hone his game for the big tournaments...........but Murray plays the same game all time.
Its frustrating..........because we have seen he can play as clean and flat groundstrokes as anyone around but chooses to play the same defensive game.

I was/am a big Murray fan, but my faith in him winning a slam has dwindled hugely, unless he is able to comfortably play a more aggressive game when he needs it he's going to need a 'lucky' run to get that slam.

can't see youzhny beating davydenko, think verdasco will beat robredo. Doubt it if murray will beat verdasco but if he does my money would be on davy in the final.
