The significant difference between wta and atp was illustrated yesterday when Ljubo was serving 6-5 tiebreak against Wawrinka. He got his first serve in. Servicereturn from Wawrinka landed midcourt and Ivan had to execute it. He put it long line and Wawrinka was caught off guard as he was approaching the other corner expecting Ljubo to go for the easy shot. I would state no WTA player would have had the guts or intelligence to go down the line.

To be fair not many wta players would have even got the serve in yet alone worked the point.

Lots of ATP players miss the nerve as well..

"no WTA player would have had the guts or intelligence to go down the line." To be fair they also don't have the first serve of Ljubicic to set up such points up either.

At least with the women you rarely have to factor in the f1x factor. It's almost always a concern with men ranked outside the top 50.

Indeed Gonzo a good example after last nights performance.
Its just pressure... and i guess men can deal with it a lot better and usually (not always) doesnt end up in a tear fest on court.

What about Stepanek missing 13 BP's in three consecutive games yesterday.. quit a lot even on 2. serve!!

A good serve relieves pressure

I am not even sure why people want to compare the two anyway, they are almost different sports that require a different thought process to assess.

good example as Stepanek won the last two sets in tiebreakers. How many wta players would have the mental strenght to get back after missing 13 break points and then win two decisive tiebreakers where the pressure is at its highest.

Pretty stupid to make Ljubo model for the entire ATP..

I will also say that i enjoy watching wta and atp in general.. you'll get appalling matches in both and good matches in both, usually the wta is more entertaining simply because you could see anything happen next ;)

The Doha championships this year was just a complete farce from match 1 to the end.. long season the cause? maybe...

you can always mention examples of weak mental strength. Very simple minded strategy. You have to look at it in a bigger picture.

The bigger picture is, there are only a few like the currently in great form Ljubo (lets forget about last years Ljubo :D )
Lots of ATP players go in to long gutless rallies at the big points

Fair comment Jeff. I'm not going to try and defend equal pay too much. But isn't it based on viewing figures and the ability to sell adverts rather than the quality of tennis? If so, a Sharapova / Serena final is likely to attract just as many viewers, no?

In fact, there's not many WTA players I wouldn't prefer to watch ahead of Ljubicic

To be fair Jeff has a point.. it is great to watch ATP at the peak of their form.. like Ljubo with his brilliant BH down the line.. Level is miles above WTA. But like WTA also ATP is filled with mugs who play stupid and without spine.. in that case I will prefer WTA above ATP any time.. especially if they are nice looking :)

I suppose there are different questions within Jeff's question. What do you prefer to bet on? WTA for me as the books make less mistakes pricing up ATP. And what do you prefer to watch? Probably ATP, but a woeful, tear-filled WTA choke-fest can be just as entertaining [viewing wise] as a Roger/Rafa humdinger.

Jeff's been slating off girls and the WTA for years on here, repeatedly, almost on a daily basis.

Must've gotten his ass handed to him by a girl when he was a promising danish junior at the age of 12 or so which destroyed his confidence and rise to the top of the tennis world.

Stepanek had sex with so many WTA girls he's becoming one himself.

wta players get a nose bleed if they step inside even the service box for a shot...panic attacks set in if they approach the net...pathetic wta should be viewed online only

Should we be concerned how you keep defending the pathetic creatures representing the WTA.

Why? You obviously got eyes and can see how pathetic they are. Why? I just wonder. You seem like a well informed forumite.

I'm a gambler who sits in front of his PC all day, has communication difficulties with real peoplewith quite an impressive stomach andbig glasses. Where am I supposed to get something like a "girlfriend" from.

There'd probably be someone willing to do it, but even I have standards. I'd also feel guilty for **ing on my right hand. Doesn't deserve to be trated like that after all this time we've spent together

Jeff you really must have enjoyed the outstanding ATP match of Troicki against Cilic.. Both trying to win the contest of who could miss the most big points..

Troicki finally got (once more) all the honours serving for the match at 6-3 in the final tiebreak he managed to lose that same tiebreak bij 6-8 :D

Sure they are all like Ljubo.. PMSL
