Constructors title extremely close and Ferrari not that far behind now, makes it even harder for Lando to get free points under orders. Would appear on the run in if Oscar gets in front, Lando will have to protect him.

If they just play the drivers championship game to the best of their ability the constructors will follow anyway. They seem a bit chumpy, suspect max will be laughing at the end

If Lando does fail the shortlist is gonna be nothing but Olympians, unless Ben A wins the America cup I guess. My top 3 Emma punt will be a write off. Can’t see Cav getting on shortlist at all. If Ben and Lando fail the choices are severely limited and they will be forced to have 3/4 cyclists by the looks of it. Unless they go obscure and leave Alex or Tom out and put the trampoline girl in. But even that means the list will be women heavy. It’s a conundrum that hopefully plays into Littlers hands, could well end up the only non Olympian and one of two males

Obviously he could win anyway, but for me this is still too nice. Why should he care if he's helped by Oscar, that's what a team should do

Luke Littler in darts 2024 World Series of Darts Finals WON Premier League WON Austrian Darts Open WON Belgian Darts Open WON Poland Masters WON Bahrain Masters WON
Well i think we can safely say the market has no respect for darts whatsoever after that performance, a decent result in that manor for any of the big guns of spoty. tennis, athletics, formula 1 or cycling would of seen some sought of drop for a said runner but poor 'old' Luke drifts in price lol The backers will just have to be patient, wait for the doc, wait for nom, wait for the polls.....then we might start seeing some respect in the market !!

yeah he was around 6.0 before Lando got on the scene, the red bull car should be good enough now to maintain Max's lead after Perez's showing till the crash. Lando's job even harder and market still loves him lol its coz spoty loves F1

Singapore is big. Red bull didn't even make Q3 last year, and lando 0.5 or so off the win. If max can get through losing the average points it would be good for him

Now Ferrari have got on the scene it counter balances what Max is upto lol dunno if its him or his car but he needs to get back competing for pole sharpish

Totally bonkers the records he's breaking, won't be enough time in the VT to mention them all. At some point the Sun will surely list them all but he's breaking records most weeks so hard to keep up.

Britain’s Ineos Britannia piled the pressure on Italy in their fight to be challenger for the America’s Cup on Wednesday, clinching two tight races over Luna Rossa in “knife-edge” sea conditions to go within one point of winning the first-to-seven Louis Vuitton Cup series.
Against the backdrop of huge Italian and British flags flying over their bases in Barcelona, both AC75 foiling boats were bounced around in choppy seas, hitting speeds of more than 50 knots at times in a stiff Mediterranean breeze.
“It’s great, good effort from the team. It’s bloody hard to sail these boats in these waves,” Ben Ainslie said after the second win, which took Britain to a 6-4 lead.
America's Cup... Holy grail... Maybe!!!

It really doesn't matter that we've never won it, whoever is backing this is mental unless trading ofc. no chance whatsoever of beating any of the top 3. Gotta be the snobbiest sport out the lot, oldies mob mostly. Probably better he don't win stu as i only see Ben taking a few thousand votes off Keely myself.

Looked like being a great year but slightly disappointing.
Ineos might get the Ryan giggs vote

Fwiw I asked BF for an Americas Cup market and BF refused. NZ Tab aren't offering one (fearing litigation, which might be the reason BF aren't) but B365 are, and Unibet were. 8/15 NZ 11/8 GB

Pretty sure there have been previous markets on here.
They don't seem bothered now. Loads of requests knocked back.. odd one accepted and added.

Would be a different type of support I'd agree, and for different reason - but we've noted the elements of 'lifetime/career' award for the main SPOTY in the past (Giggs anyone?), Cav this year etc...and cricket fans can get behind one of their own we know.
He's still an outsider for me, but a live one.

Shortened a fair bit, from 130+ into around 55, but arguably if he was on the shortlist should be shorter.
Why should he not be on the shortlist would be a question really, in a fairly thin year?

Wayne Rooney was NEVER shortlisted in the era of 16 nominations even when he broke Sir Bobby Charlton's England scoring record. Harry Kane wasn't shortlisted when he broke Rooney's England scoring record. I doubt Root will be shortlisted for just that.

When cook broke the record in 2015, he was also captain of the England team that won the Ashes. It was a 12 person list, non Olympic year, and he never got a nomination.
Roots done nothing even remotely close to that and it's probably a 6 person list.

Fair points about how cricket has to overcome some bias against it in this award.
ps I don't think Root was nominated previously looking back? There were some complaints though when he wasn't in 2015.

For Root to win, would need to be recognised by the beeb as a sport, and some well of cricket supporters to come together to support their sport - not impossible, but still an outsider.

Beaten Cook's record, highest test match centuries, highest test match 50s, add the 'career achievement' angle too.
Wouldn't say nothing remotely is accurate.

It's nothing compared to captaining England to Ashes victory, that's the holy grail of English cricket, and if Cook couldn't make it on the shortlist Root has zero chance

It is a bias for sure, but that may have changed since (Stokes lifted cricket back somewhat) since.
Root also made his achievements quicker than anyone else (including Cook).
End of day, the nom process is very unpredictable as it's just a few individuals doing it here. Could go either way.

In other news...what is people's thinking on Ainslee - looks like the current crush of the market to win?
It would be an achievement for sure in the America's cup, but surely this is a minority sport and therefore vote?

was on shortlist after 3rd gold medal, got 35,000 votes, again on list after 4th gold medal and got 35,000 again. Ben has no chance whatsoever, sailing is niche beyond niche..way too beige even Keely will slaughter his vote

i'd also add how the feck do you make sailing appear interesting in a VT, it has to be the dullest sport on the planet to watch for neutrals especially.

Helped mastermind an unlikely victory for Oracle Team USA (winning 9–8 after being 1–8 down) in the America's Cup.
48,000 for this, he will need 200,000+ imo to win this years

The America's cup would be something of an historic win for GB, but would think it is also much more a team effort also - he relies on some great performers to do much of the work, e.g. in contrast to someone like Root being the 'best player' in a team.

Considering England men already picked up the team award for losing the previous euro's and footy in general has won the last 4 team awards. I agree the team award would almost be a certainty if Ben leads them to success.

If Ben and Lando were to fail, and i make Cav a very strong fav to collect the lifetime award given how many cyclists are competing for the shortlist. Then just maybe Root could sneak onto the list, as only one of Tom or Alex would get on. The rock climbing lad would maybe competing with Root.
The list if 6 places like it has been for the last 6 years would look like this for me
Luke Tom rock climber/root keely emma sarah storey
Tom may well miss out as well, with the two girl cyclists a given imo which could help Root out. If either Ben or Lando win titles then even harder for Root as Tom and rock climber would get ditched as well imo. ofc they can make the shortlist bigger upto 8 places possibly.
Immaterial though as Root wouldn't get past Emma's vote total for me

I'd rather Ben, Lando and Root were kept off the list as it enhances Luke's chances and the top 3 place is still looking interesting if that happens as ive still got EW bets on Emma riding.

Obviously bear, its still a very thin selection to choose from. I suppose the trampoline girl could get in. There isn't many women that can get listed is there ? She was just as much the star of the games as Keely was, as written in many papers.
My 3 certs are Luke, Emma and the fav

Emma needs to get in as she would dilute the fav's vote to some extent, being both young female Olympians. Keely would guarantee pick some of the votes Emma would get.
Probably all hogwash anyway as Littler will win by a landslide if Lando fails that is

Fav backers are desperate for only her and Sarah to make the list i would imagine, its the best chance she has. Which would be more likely if Ben and Lando make the list....its the same story for Lando and Luke, regardless of how many votes it is. They would take some votes off each other the same as the girls would. If your're playing this market for a year, you want the best scenario possible for your pick

All the cricket, athletic, motor racing, dart fan talk is pretty bullsh1tty really. Nearly all sport fans don't just like one sport, they like many. Yes every sport has its die hard fans that will probably vote 100% but there is also a very large % of crossover sport fans. whether its cricket and motor sport, or darts and footy..whatever. Every person i know likes many many different sports. In those cases it really does come down to the VT on the night. plus there will be thousands of neutral sport fans watching/voting whose sport is not listed like rugby, football etc
So to say the diehard fans of one sport decides this award really is b0llocks, they may make up a decent portion of the overall vote but in a tight contest the neutrals and crossovers of 2/3 of the sports shortlisted ultimately decides who will win

The VTs are important I'd agree. They can seem to swing whoever is watching - I recall the rugby guy who was a legend getting an awful VT and short interview - so he bombed in the voting.

I do think your girl will get a really good VT, the deaf back story and that shot of her emotional and teary eyed is a cracker but its all factored into her price. With how short the VT's are she gets everything in quite powerfully and easily.
Take Littler, the lad whose big edge is being so young who doesn't look it lol has won 9 title to date, more than any other pro and broke endless records. His VT is anyones guess coz there is not going to be nowhere near enough time to translate everything he's achieved this year. So the big question is, will they get it right to make it a wow moment or not.
Thats if it does eventually come down to a H2H battle
