I think the "foreigner" thing is a bit of a red herring in this case. We don't strongly hate Aussies, except in a fun way for sports. It's not like the way we tend to despise most Americans until they've proven themselves exceptionally worthy.

I DO however feel Ch5 wanted it to be as close a battle as possible and the edits may well have ensured this. A train would be rather boring, even if it got turned over, but a bit of last-minute turbulence would be fun.

Well English is dynamic. Can't be long before "shoe-in" gets a place in the O.E.Dictionary, if not there already.

Like people saying "I could care less" becoming acceptable usage even though it is only the negative of the phrase that leads to the intended meaning.
