At this point I think Palace may be forced to go with a stop gap appointment as its getting late in the game and its going to be very difficult to get a real manager in under these circumstances (relegation bound, would appear 10th choice, etc).

So Millen/Coppell/Warnock is I think where they be forced to go.  Avram Grant was backed at the start of this market, not very popular but same type.  Course Dowie same mold but his appointment compared to the first three wouldn't go down well at all.

Anyways I think Strama might be the one, Italian journo claimed it was close last night and a couple more reliable Palace guys seem to think the end is near.  Stories match up but at this point hard to have real confidence in anything.

Neil Ashton, who I feel is pretty close with Palace, just tweeted "its closer than you might think" in regards to a question about the manager situation.  Last night suggested similar.

Yes hiring Tony Pulis is a sign of real intent.  I'm baffled why Pulis is regarded at all, he's simply nowhere near a top manager.  This notion he can "get results" because of the way his teams play is nonsense.  He got results at Stoke in line (or below) the cost of his team, of course doing so in the most unattractive fashion possible.

That's what I thought, haven't seen to many articles about this manager situation in that paper either. 

Probably still Pulis but maybe a guy like Strama is worth a shot right now.  Even though he's been basically ignored in the English media there have been some blurbs from Italy claiming he was a serious candidate.  If the movement in the odds tonight meant anything and Warnock has in some form been contacted then perhaps he is the assistant they are looking for.  In theory it works, Palace get an experienced head to give them the best chance for survival but he works in tandem with an up and comer manager.

Just a wild theory, think I've been looking at this market too long.

Legitimate source (Telegraph) now finally saying Pulis.  Probably worth a back even sub 1.10, one of the owners on the Palace board mentioned hypothetically not an ideal time to announce a manager before a "big" match tomorrow.

Thinking now they gave up on Strama earlier, thus the reopened talks with Pulis.  BBC guy did mention the Palace board were afraid to give the job to a younger manager as fears it would signal no intent. 

imo the board has totally bottled the decision, seems they are adamant they can stay up this season and for some odd reason believe Pulis is the most adept to achieve this.  Even though there is really no evidence at all to suggest Pulis has the know how to get a team to overachieve.

Pulis is most certainly their best option here and a good choice.  Onto the next one.

I`ve come up with five categories of player in these markets.
In order of ignorance:

1)  The utter mugs.
Arrive home from work, see Sky Sports reporting that `x` is in talks, and lump on at eg. 3.0, not caring that `x` had been available at, eg, 25, before Sky first reported it hours ago. Cue the drift. Come home tomorrow, repeat the process on `y`, and the next day on `z`. Leaving this group as big-time  net losers.

2) The blind traders.
These markets are the ultimate example of `buy high, sell low`. Allowing completely uninformed traders, (me) to consistently turn a decent profit .

3) The semi-informed.
Keep themselves up-to-date with twitter, etc. putting  a bit of work and research into their strategies. Keep themselves just ahead enough of the market to make it pay.

4) Those who (believe they are?) `in the know`.
Pile in at short odds when they really do know that something is happening. Problem for them is that, even if all looks done and dusted, sometimes it isn`t. These people are not likely to be the same people in each market, as most of them will only be genuinely in-the-know at one particular club or candidate. As a whole, I imagine this group would, long term, have more losers than winners.

5) Harry Redknapp

I get the impression that most of the time, most people on here are just short odds layers on any market hoping for one big pay day.

I have no expert football knowledge at all, but see the pattern of any rumour making any candidate trade far to low, on very flimsy info. this seems to be repeated over and over.
so why not take some easy money laying the snowballs, a simple medium term winning strategy?
If a deal is done there is about 50k wanting to back at between 1.01-1.05.

I wasn't so much talking about manager's markets, but all markets. So many people laughing at 1.01s getting gubbed etc, and waiting for a short price to lay, more in hope than any long-term expectation that they'll get overturned. There will be some people who calculate the short prices and lay when they're too short, but not all.

Nail on the head Darlo and one reason why I believe my strategies "seem to work".

Hence my point - I would be immediately concerned why that person wanted the bet - at seemingly any price!

I try to provide a good service for my clients, which occasionally includes making up prices on something I have no real knowledge of. Always only for a `fun` sized payout, if they want something more serious, they have to wait for me to dig around to find a more correct price.
He wasn`t entirely happy with evens, until I offered him evens that AVB WOULDN`T be fired.
