blimey - fighting at the racecourse when there's not even any racing now

from the Cambridge News

Dream wedding at Newmarket Racecourses interrupted by arrests

Written byLUCY ROSS-MILLAR

Two guests were arrested after a fight broke out at a sophisticated wedding reception.

The rowdy revellers turned on the police after they were called to reports of a disturbance at the Rowley Mile racecourse in Newmarket by staff and guests at 11.45pm on Saturday.

Suffolk police confirmed two people were arrested for assaulting police and causing an affray at the prestigious Millennium Stand venue.

Guests were treated by the ambulance service for minor injuries, and further reports of minor assaults are being investigated.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: “Police were called to the Millennium Stand by staff and other callers reporting a disturbance at a wedding reception at approximately quarter to midnight on Saturday.”

The racecourse’s website states it is a “unique wedding reception venue” with a wide range of beautiful suites and rooms to choose from - with stunning views of the racecourse and the Parade Ring.

Deb finishes her shift at 9.00 she can then watch concert, we will probs leave at 10.00ish Amy leaves after security clearance about 2.00SadSad. So long hard day for her but the meeting we had that I mentioned went well, so its full steam ahead for her and the nights have gone well this year with one exceptionSad
Report squares August 16, 2013 4:19 PM BST
aah, you leave same sort of time as us then - quick getaway.

Which was the exception?
Report J.O.TOBIN. August 16, 2013 4:22 PM BST
Simple Minds they were too cult northern imo and having them early didnt help cant guarantee the weather either. All the others have done well so shes in a good place.
Report squares August 16, 2013 4:25 PM BST
aah that's a shame.  One of the best - them doing Love Song was one of the highlights of my year.

have heard worse about some others, but then not so many were at SM - altho that suited me.
Report J.O.TOBIN. August 16, 2013 4:31 PM BST
Yes watch out for the return of Olly Murs and Madness next yearGrinGrinGrin
Report squares August 16, 2013 4:38 PM BST
seen Madness too many times tbf, new Jools Holland I suppose.

Olly would be great, possibly too big now tho?

Enjoyed Keane but felt they weren't right for the racecourse crowd - too many songs that sound the same, too many slow songs, not enough stand-out well-known songs bar a couple.  Much preferred Kaiser Chiefs, prob my fav of the year overall.

could do with Chic or someone of that ilk

80s rewind type thing

don't like acts who encourage teens/youngsters to come along (usually with their parents) - sulky little scrotes with too much of a sense of entitlement.  You see Haydock had 19,000 for Madness, weren't going to get any more than 8,000 for Rita Ora.

Rudimental (probs too big now, should have had them this year)

it's a shame that there are a lot of good live acts with a lot of well known hits, but I don't think they'd get the sales in advance - Elvis Costello, Squeeze, etc.

Snow Patrol probs the most mainstream indie type band.
Report squares August 16, 2013 4:49 PM BST
you got a set list ?
Report J.O.TOBIN. August 16, 2013 4:52 PM BST
yep that 80s guy frankie valli went down well I think, will put your names in for next year Olly would just be in budget he would have been this year but there was an exclusion on his date.
