I find the unpredictability quite disturbing. Doesn't fill one with a lot of confidence for next year's event.

Eurovision is a minefield. I am not sure whether I was just lucky this year in that there was one very high quality song and nothing else really to rival it.

Mind you, the more I look at the final scores the more I detect (or imagine) a method in the madness. Very pleased Italy did so well. It was proper music. It was my biggest green in the end due to some incompetent mistakenly large bet placing during the interval! Was disappointed it didn't overhaul Azerbaijan. Definintely laid off my surplus Azeri position too early but I was a physical wreck and it had to be done.
Report RMB © May 15, 2011 12:39 AM BST
Awesome effort chaps. Thought the sound production in general was poor. Alot of acts sounded horrific, thought Eric was quite poor in truth, France too, Blue horrific. Azer too sounded a bit off to me.
Report penguins May 15, 2011 12:39 AM BST

Report Latinquarter May 15, 2011 12:41 AM BST
A few songs lost appeal on 2nd hearing , Hungary, she started weakly for some reason, and didnt recover. Estonia i thought lost impact, as did Finland, Switzerland and Serbia.
To a certain extent i didnt think Azerbaijan was as good tonight as Tuesday, as shown by its relatively low winners collection of 12s.
Report George Bailey May 15, 2011 12:47 AM BST
FDUX I loved the unpredictability that the new scoring system brought. It was like watching the chaos theory live. Many people still betting on basis of that particular vote even though voting designed to create tension plus there are 43 to vote.

For the cool headed with a background in probabilities/maths tonight was manna from Heaven imo.

Still old school in that you need to take a position before final to make it easy on the night e.g. rule out France and Ireland and the rest is a doddle.

Even Sunshine Head should have filled his boots this year if he traded off Laugh

I'm sure there are many reasons why Norway failed while it's mananged to make the charts in various countries.

Maybe one of the biggest was people thinking what was a song sung in swahili doing representing Norway and in the contest at all.

France failed for similar reasons I suspect. People just didn't feel opera belonged in Eurovision.

Looking at where it's 30 pts came from
4 came from the 12 eastern countries voting in that semi.
26 pts came from the 9 western countries.

Add to that a poor draw and I suspect poor jury scores and you have  the main reasons for it;s poor performance.
Report nugg May 15, 2011 2:08 AM BST
I do think Eric could have won this contest with a better draw.....if he had played in last five the result would have been very different I suspect...also would have been nice to have the proper glass smashing effect working as it did in melodifestiven

All the pop type songs being drawn early alongside each other cannot have helped any of them ...Estonia included

Still amazed some good judges got suckered into France.
Report nugg May 15, 2011 2:55 AM BST
I always believed both Sweden and Bosnia were nailed on for top 10 ....there was always the thing with France it would either win by a street or completely flop depending on whether people believed ESC was the place for Opera....there is no doubt that France was probably the best technical singer but ESC needs to remain cheesey to a certain extent so I am glad Azers soppy ballad and Swedens teen pop song both did well and kept the competition as it SHOULD be :-)

"Azer my biggest green. Georgia and Austria for top 10. Austria a good back to lay"

Austria didn't make top 10 but their was a plunge on Nadine after she sang, before she drifted like a barge when a few people obviously got wind of some of the results.
