Chris Fountain was beaten because he was perceived as coming to the show with some skating ability already, quite a few of us did well with Suzanne.
From memory, I didn't get involved until the last week or two and still got 5s.

Although the starting ability is less evident here, I'm hoping they will play a lot of Keiron's initial ineptitude on the ice, and Hayley's relative ease.
Didn't want gary there as he detracts from Keiron's outsider status, would have been much better with uninostril in the final.

With lots of people backing and laying at similar odds, its the same so long as they all have a "green up" strategy - of course one person taking a position would mean someone else would also be taking a position.

With bigger spreads it can also be the same eg suppose the spread is 10.0 to 20.0 and Im asking and get 20. I then throw in a lay at 10 but noone matches, and eventually I may lay at the same 20 just before the off.

Obviously if I can back at 20 and lay at 10, theres someone (or manyone) taking the equivalent loss to my win.

Hilary is the obvious surprise on first look.

Jeremy went from hero to zero.

Dr Hilary never had much of a vote at all.

Mikey very popular throughout - should have been top male.

Jason did wonders for Sharron's "popularity".

Mikey was 2nd in the PV, as most on here suggested, the week he went. Very unlucky considering he topped the vote the week before and was only beaten in the vote that week because Hayley gave the performance of the series and scored a perfect 30. Would have been a clear 2nd and maybe even a contender if he got the skating right in the final.

Final was very comfortable for Hayles.

Which ever way you look at it, Mikey didn't have the underlying popularity most of us thought he had. In normal weeks he was polling between 10 and 20. Week 5 he polled 23.4 but he fell into the bottom 2 on the scoreboard. He was never going to win, and would have needed quite a miracle to get to the final. All imo of course.

Of course people can twist stats to suit their argument/position, but from what I deduce there is no reason why Mikey should have been top male. Each of the two weeks before Mikey fell they were polling virtually identically, and Gary was the highest scoring skater. It's supposed to be pv/scoring 50/50. I don't believe sympathy for someone dying or sympathy for falling over should be a deciding factor ultimately.

You could also say Gary got various "boosts" from being in the bottom 2 Wk 1, from getting slated by Jason often and from having his daughter featured so much, so various "dramas" have helped both of them a number of times.

Hayley had top spot on the pv to herself, and he was the weakest scoring skater. He was going to end up in the skate-off and very likely required to be saved from the bottom of the table.
If you are the lowest scoring skater, and never topping the pv, yes I believe a miracle to get to the final.

Yep, I'd say a fair amount of Gary's 'popularity' was down to an anti Jason vote.
Sharron even managed 16% off the back of that.

My point is that there is little evidence to suggest Mikey deserved top male.

Overall Mikey was the 3rd best skater in the contest. He scored 20.5 in week 4. Kieron and Danny didn't beat that til week 9.
If I'd seen the figures in week 4 I'd have made him a slight favourite ahead of Hayley.
Of course it all went downhill from there, but I don't believe that was predictable at the time.

For me he ticked all the boxes.

He had the popularity, the skating skills and the performance skills.
Gary only had 2 of those.
Hayley clearly had all 3 too.

Week 3, Jt2nd with Gary. Ahead of Danneilla and only 1pt behind Hayley
Week 4, 2nd. Ahead of Danniella and Gary.

That's the thing tho, these shows are all about improvement whereas Mikey went backwards.
I stood to win more at the time if Mikey had been top man so I am not speaking through my pocket.
He couldn't beat Hayley when he was in the bottom 2 and she was safe.
Gary was very consistent in the pv, usually 3rd or 2nd, and was a consistent scorer on the table occupying similar spots.

If Mikey had the skating skills he wouldn't have gone out. It's a marathon not a sprint and he wasn't good enough, consistently and there was another runner caning the voting.

Why would anyone be talking through their pocket now when we are all weighed in? I'm just commenting on the popularity of the various contestants as demonstrated by the figures posted today.

I'm not saying you're talking through your pocket squares, just thought my postings may have come across as if I was, because as usual I'm in the minority lol!

I'd have expected Mikey to be beating her and beating her fairly easily in weeks 3 and 4.
I'd still say though on these figures, that he was the only other possible winner.
IF he'd made reasonable improvement and hadn't, understandably, thrown in the towel in from week 5 onwards.

..but I do think he was still heading for 2nd place given these figures.
It's far from certain he'd have been bottom of the leaderboad the following week.
They all seemed to be taking their turns in that spot in the last few weeks..

Mikey may well have climbed back up the leaderboard, equally so he may not have. To me that doesn't make him deserving of top male. Falling over boosted his pv up and he still went. We can safely apportion his week 8 pv to falling over, how much the coverage of it lifted his week 9 vote is anyone's guess. But before he fell his voting was on a par with Gary's in the two previous shows, there's no reason that should have changed given 'normal' circumstances.

Before I started heavily backing Hayley I found her ruthlessly competitive (her tweets) with a fake smile. At the end when she became my only green she became utterly charming.

Its extraordinary how betting on someone can actually change their personality. Must be telekinesis or something.

I warmed quite a bit to Mincey but Hayley is still shocking. She was on BBC Breakfast this morning and it was vomit inducing stuff. Dan is just as bad.
