Royle Family was seriously good

I've never seen it before, but the rest of the family wanted to watch it, so I sat through it and thought it was bloody hilarious!

It was appalling. It's tragic what has happened to that show.

"Never seen it before" is the key here. Whether funny or not it's not the Royle family anymore.

Dave used to be a fairly shrewd operator (own van, dj-ing etc) now he's just a bloody half-wit. Same with Denise. She was just lazy, now she's an idiot.

Dumbed down comedy.

If I was still awake after 15 minutes I would've switched it off. Luckilly for me I fell asleep.

It was slated by many, but last year was much better.

Did see a bit of the Catherine Tate one later on, dont watch her but thought it was funny

Last years show was great because it slipped into farce as Fawlty Towers often did,
This year was very subdued and very average.

Sight of Jim with skid marks in his underpants while having a sh!te in caravan, was funny imo, but was fairly tame in general.

Funny how this often splits opinion this show. As a fan I have to say I was a bit disappointed this year. Mind you I found all the comedy shows this year were poor - Gavin and Stacey didn't make me laugh once, and Catherine Tate's thing just seemed odd, and not at all funny. Out of the three I still prefered the Royle Family, but not saying that much.

Funny enough on the early figures RF hasn't done that bad, and could still end up winning it!

I thought last years was mediocre. You'd have thought the criticisms of it would have led to a bit more effort this year, but you felt as though you were watching a parody of The Royle Family rather than the real thing. It just doesn't seem to work very well when they're out of the living room.

I thought the Royle family was very funny in bits, but I agree with TM that is struggles outside of the living room. Whereas before the humour used to have a certain charm to it I did feel this time they were just picking off some pretty easy targets in terms of gags - it felt almost vindictive at times.

An hour is too long as well.

Last year was so dire, so unfunny and so out of tune with the narrative and character development of everything we had seen before (since when had Dave become retarded?) that I refused to watch this Christmas - and I'm a fan - every episode on DVD/box set etc.

Last year was like watching an old and valued friend being humiliated. I just wasn't going to put myself through it again this year.
