My tip for the value in the xmas TV market - The Royle Family.
Better time and schedule slot than last year, will make a difference.
Most important, first real comedy of the year to watch on the evening - comedy will be what everyone's crying out for, by 9.00pm after doudy Eastenders and scary Doctor Who earlier!
At a price similar to WAG last year, I think this is huge value for a Royle xmas!!
Think the 9.00pm slot, with a comedy show, is the beeb's main show for xmas day - so expect it to get a heavy increase from last year. It's either that or Poirot on the other side, which is a pretty doudy choice after the other shows that are on earlier. Can see most families choosing the comedy route.

I think Dr Who is in danger of going too 'dark' and putting off some of it's most young audience. But it's still a worthy favourite. Eastenders at 3.8 is pretty amazing, but may still not be value!
But if it's value, then I'm looking at the chances assigned for each and no question for me with the current schedule. Point is, a lot will end up watching it by default almost at that time.

I have RF and Dr Who equal greens. Gavin and Stacey and Catherine Tate surely on too late. Strictly never gets more than 9m in that slot, so EE the only danger.

Last years Royle Family was really funny, but didnt stay true to the shows roots whatsoever, Denise and Dave characters especially were slaughtered.
Its 100/1 bar the top 3 in the market imo.Last years Royle Family was really funny, but didnt stay true to the shows roots whatsoever, Denise and Dave characters especially were slaughtered.
Has anyone else noticed that it's the first time we've ever seen the Royle family outside of their house? My guess is then that the whole episode will be set in the car. How can a program entirely set inside a car be number one tv for Christmas day?

Not sure anyone really cares when they're looking for something to watch that's funny - Only Fool's N Horses Christmas Specials were getting figures through the roof each year, despite being rubbish for years! (not that I thought it was bad last year anyway...)

I am running some skinny Royals this Christmas though. They are on a diet and I still reckon that it is a 2 horse race.
