My tip for the value in the xmas TV market - The Royle Family.

Better time and schedule slot than last year, will make a difference.

Most important, first real comedy of the year to watch on the evening - comedy will be what everyone's crying out for, by 9.00pm after doudy Eastenders and scary Doctor Who earlier!

At a price similar to WAG last year, I think this is huge value for a Royle xmas!!

Trailer on now.
I love it, but it's not everyones cup of tea.
I've had a nibble though.

Think the 9.00pm slot, with a comedy show, is the beeb's main show for xmas day - so expect it to get a heavy increase from last year. It's either that or Poirot on the other side, which is a pretty doudy choice after the other shows that are on earlier. Can see most families choosing the comedy route.

It better be funnier than last year's dire attempt.

Both Craig and Caroline should have hung their heads in shame last Christmas.

Well the beeb obviously have enough faith not to have buried it in a later slot - they've basically given it the prime slot.

Plus, I still thought it was the best thing on last year (though I know it divided opinion). I didn't actually think WAG was particularly good.

It wasn't the best last year, but I agree shrewdbury, still pretty good.
Clearly plenty didn't agree.

I think Dr Who is in danger of going too 'dark' and putting off some of it's most young audience. But it's still a worthy favourite. Eastenders at 3.8 is pretty amazing, but may still not be value!

But if it's value, then I'm looking at the chances assigned for each and no question for me with the current schedule. Point is, a lot will end up watching it by default almost at that time.

RF that is..

I have RF and Dr Who equal greens.
Gavin and Stacey and Catherine Tate surely on too late. Strictly never gets more than 9m in that slot, so EE the only danger.

Its 100/1 bar the top 3 in the market imo.

Last years Royle Family was really funny, but didnt stay true to the shows roots whatsoever, Denise and Dave characters especially were slaughtered.

Has anyone else noticed that it's the first time we've ever seen the Royle family outside of their house? My guess is then that the whole episode will be set in the car. How can a program entirely set inside a car be number one tv for Christmas day?

By being the only comedy show on a mainstream channel at 9.00pm on Christmas night. ;)

...and it will not be set in a car.

The Christmas Special last year was bloody awful.

Not sure anyone really cares when they're looking for something to watch that's funny - Only Fool's N Horses Christmas Specials were getting figures through the roof each year, despite being rubbish for years! (not that I thought it was bad last year anyway...)

It will be Dr Who or EE. A 2 horse race innit.

Well, if you read the thread you'll see the reasons why not Alex. ;)

Ok. I probably did cast my eye over it.

I am running some skinny Royals this Christmas though. They are on a diet and I still reckon that it is a 2 horse race.

It's when people think its a two horse race that those backing at double figures get great value.

It was supposed to be a two-horse race last year alex - then Wallace and Gromit won it by about 3 million viewers at 14/1!

My plan is to have a level book. I will get there in time. The Royles have drifted a bit though and it still looks to me to be a 2 horse race.

Oh I have a green on the Royles that I don't want as well.

Hey ho.
