Over a week yet to go but draw released today and, as ever, a lot to digest. At first glace fair to say it's been kind to some, less so to others. Robbo should really cruise through his first match (Zak or Gao Yang most likely) and then face either Jamie Jones or Xu Si, probably could have been better in fairness, though you'd expect him to come through it in any sort of form. A couple i've had an eye on long term look to have done alright so will have a closer look once some odds are released.

I'm inclined to agree with that lats. I was thinking about that too with the (non) performance of the female contingent in R1. Bai Yulu excepted, that is. I watched a bit of the womens world championships and i know we talk about buckets, but the pockets there were a farce. Obviously they wanted them to make proper big breaks and then brag about the standard but watching them hammer pots in along the rails was an affront to the game. I'm then thinking they come along to sheffield and adjusting to the tighter pockets catches them out. I know they're not good, but they're better than they showed. I may be making too much about it but thought did occur to me at the time.
The girls this season have made 50s on average every 11.0 frames for Reanne, 11.63 frames for Mink, 12.33 frames for Bai, 16.0 for Baipat and 69 frames for Kenna. None of them feature higher than #144 out of #156 in the scoring rankings for the season (exc CL(R), CL(I) and Shootout) I've not seen how they fared in the WWC, but based on what you've said, I imagine they will have happened quite a bit more frequently than that!

Just some quick sums from womens championships. Bai 14 50+ breaks in 38 frames, mink 6+ in 29, Reanne 13+ in 25 frames. Obviously you need to take into account quality opposition and number of chances, but still a significant advance I'd say. If you'd watched Reanne there without considering conditions, you'd have thought, hmmm, she looks in good shape here. Enough to fool me I'm almost ashamed to say

Doesn't it just? I don't know, maybe it makes no difference, but i wouldn't have thought it was the best preparation for the world qualifiers.
Exactly, mate. I have been thinking about producing separate sets of numbers for when tables play easy and tight (it was the Miah match here that made me consider it, actually). It is almost like different surfaces in tennis, just we don't get told in advance which they'll be playing on in a given day. You can usually work it out within a session or two, though!
Should be like racing where they give a "going" declaration before tournaments, ranging from Firm which would be total bucketville, a Pistol's dream, to Heavy where they would be tighter than a nuns chuff. And whatever WS declared you'd automatically know to take it to mean two levels below!

If Kendrick was to save his tour card at the WC, it would be one of the greatest get out of jail cards ever played. Still a loooooonnnnng way to go before that becomes a possibility, but it's a real shame he's saved his best till now.

An absolute shadow of the player he once was, but what a total mug stevens is now, 8-3 down and with the chances he's spurned, especially the last frame this morning, he conceivable could and should be 6-5 up in this match. wouldn't have guessed he's ranked 48 now, would have said more like 78. Just truly Awful...

Well, Jenson had a chance there and couldn't take it, Lyu sends him to Q school. Hopefully he makes it back as a better player. He's certainly looked one this past week.

Been away for most of this - but what's going on with the kid (Jiang Jun) playing Hoss today? - His numbers/scoring for these qualifiers are off the scale incredible against anything he has ever done before. Is it just bucketsville?

Hi mate, I've only really seen bits of one of his matches (latter stages against Fan). His scoring is, as you say, far and away superior to anything he's done before. Certainly at the start of week 1, tables were playing pretty nippy - possibly easing a fraction now.
As for prospering, there has been VERY little money about, in the main.

Need Cao for a nice double but not feeling like I'm gunna get that now. Disappointing so far.
Cao really struggling now. 3-1 up but gifted 3 frames back so 4-3 down. Just been told Cao retriing snooker for Chinese 8 ball. Wish I’d have done a bit more digging and known that sooner. Wouldn’t have played.

I guess it's a shock because he seemed to be back playing his standard quality stuff, but i felt a few of his old flaws were starting to show. Average shot time over 30 seconds is telling i think. But hats off to JJ, never gave up and pretty memorable clinical taking his chances in the end.

I know mate, not just that he made the ton but he just potted them like it was a practice session and it was by no means all laid on, had to make a fair bit of it. Had a huge fluke to win previous frame too.
Some effort from the Welsh players in the final round - Dom/Page/Jamie J/Jak J/Ryno - just Stevens missed out. MJW wins/runs of frames performance inspiring the rest of them.

Very nearly got tempted into an OR bet on Robbo for this one - thank feck I didn't! 
Scotty was obviously playing great stuff up to 8-8 but whenever i tuned in last 3 frames they were both missing chance after chance. Usual ryno fare really, scotty just couldn't keep his momentum going.

Think it's just short of 2 hours, Farmer v Fergal world qualifiers bout 5 years ago. Selt actually had decent chance there but missed yellow off the spot, though pink was awkward. Happy for JOC to get his chance to play in the crucible though.

Some interesting games as always first round - I'm particularly interested in Higgins v Jones, now that Jones has shown some real balls and quality getting past Robbo - oddly the big backer seems to be all over Higgins, but Jones also actually beat him last time they played.
