Anybody else watched this?  I stumbled upon in on Prime Video the other night when winding down after the actual snooker and Netflix was down and finished it off last night.

Remarkable insight into Ronnie, it has to be said.  Extraordinary, actually.  Well worth a watch if only to hear the audio of that post WC-win hug with Judd.

It's on my watchlist with Prime - not had the chance yet but got very good reviews from a few places...though to be fair I'd take your own over many of those I saw recommend it ...

just an FYI... but he was on 'The Overlap' youtube channel the other week as well (with Neville, Carragher Keane, Wright etc) ...quite good value though largely light weight stuff...that show's quite watchable in itself though depends on your tolerance for the names quoted Mischief

hope all is well with you anyway mate ...still get most of my snooker catch up from the threads on here...

It's a stunning piece of filmmaking for sure. Obviously got lucky with how the season played out and the way the drama and tension builds up to the end is just outstanding. Fair play to Ronnie for giving the trust and the access and kudos to Sam for not overplaying his hand when the temptation must have been otherwise. He doesn't try to diagnose or analyse Ronnie, just lets his own words and actions drive the narrative and the talking heads are pretty well chosen and wisely kept to a minimum i think. To be honest, i might have dispensed with Ronnie Wood but maybe Ronald insisted on his inclusion and it's only a tiny quibble in the larger scheme of things anyway. Small thing but never had Ronnie down as a smoker, don't know why i ever missed that!

Hey Brentford, All good here, thanks, mate.  Hope the same goes for you?  I'll try and check out The Overlap (I actually really like Neville & Keane despite their club allegiance Wink).  Sounds good.

John,  Sure I read something somewhere (after I'd watched it) that said Ronnie himself felt that having the camera there had actually been the focus he needed to turn his season around and lodge the WC win.

Couldn't help but feel (more than once) that a lot of Ronnie's career has been spent trying to make his dad proud rather than for himself, though it seems to be snooker itself (and what it does to him) that he resents rather than his dad!

Totally agree about Ronnie Wood.  Thought Damien Hirst's segments, conversely, were excellent, and the stuff with Steve Peters (even though a lot of what he was saying seemed to be completely passing Ronnie by! Laugh).

I knew Ronnie had made reference to smoking in an interview reasonably recently, though that does seem to be quite at odds with his running!

Will probably try to watch it again in a oner at some point.

Agree Hirst was excellent. Basically covered the same ground as Wood just with a lot more eloquence and insight. But i can see why Wood is in there all the same. If i was making and selling a movie about snooker, i know I'd be pushing it like mad that Ronnie Wood was in it. Can't do the sales pitch much harm anyway.

Ronnies relationship with his parents is fascinating. His mother still obviously carries some guilt over the circumstances of Ronnie Snrs arrest, thought her contributions were very good and poignant. And maybe just me, but i was struck by the fact that before the final, Ronnie Snr calls him and asks if it's ok he attends the match. Like, it's not a given he'd be there with him every step of the way. And then during the celebrations, a thing i noted at the time too, Ronnie Snr just slips in almost unnoticed at the edge of the table. Unless i missed it, there was no bear hug or embrace with Ronnie, it's like he's unsure he should really be there. Don't know if I'm totally over reading that, just struck me as a bit odd and I'm not sure what to make of it at all tbh.

Yeah, I noticed that, too.  There was a bit where Ronnie explained who someone was to his dad, as well (can't remember who exactly), but I remember thinking at the time, "surely he knows who that is?!"  I mean, he's been out since 2010!  As you say, a very complex relationship, and I suspect, even post-release, he's not been around much at the business ends of tournaments, if at all.  I need to rewatch it.

I watched Brentford's suggestion between sessions on Monday, BTW.  That is indeed a good watch, too.  So much of what he says is a contradiction, though.  Granted people's opinions might change over time, but I can't help but think that Ronnie says what he says depending on the situation and what best suits him at the time.

The guy beside Ronnie was Fred Done i think, the bookie guy from Betfred who were the sponsors. But yeah, complex relationship is putting it mildly I'd say, as lots of family relationships can be. There's a whole other film to be made there which, of course, will never be made. I do occasionally snatch a glance at Ronnie Snr's twitter page to see what form of abuse he's levelling at Steve "Les" Dawson or other members of WST. Acts like he's pretty much an untouchable and I'd guess he probably is.

Ah, yes!  Jr described him as being "sound" or similar, which is different to the publicity he seems to get on the racing forum  LaughLaughLaugh

Wow, there's a ROS Sr Twitter page?!  Shocked

WOW.  Just WOW!

Can't believe he's being critical of the travel, though, when Ronnie's adding all these extra Far East trips in of his own volition!

Ha! Haven't seen that one but the man does like a good rant tbf. Makes Junior seem temperate by comparison!
