I know it's a bit of a joke (format) - but the prize money is ok and all the top players have travelled for it.

I have requested Exchange Markets - so maybe we will get some coverage in time for the 11:30 (GMT) games Cry

Also Stan Moody has earned his tour card and is playing Love

If anybody else want to contact them and request markets it would probably help - maybe for some coverage tomorrow Cry

RIP Betfair.

Selby withdrawn and looked like he was in the depths of depression again at the last tournament,it wouldn't surprise me if he withdrew from the worlds,he was going to do it last season till his wife persuaded him..If he's like that again he won't play, utterly pointless playing if you feel like that, the fact he hasn't gone for this tells you everything..

It looks like there was a mix-up in the understanding of the rules in the first frame between Selt and milkins.

Nikolay @Nick007J

Actual frame score in frame 1 of Selt - Milkins match is 1-28 (still early concession). Here's what happened: youtu.be/wpU0b1Q4ovg?t=…
Most likely those responsible for live scoring were confused at why it's a foul (and it's not obvious unless you revisit 6 Red specific rules...)

iirc - you are not allowed to play a snooker behind the colour that you nominate.

I wouldn't mind but I was hoping that was the frame that was gonna get my "tournament centuries" bet off to a flying start! - still zero so far! LaughWink

Gin - can you use your (considerably greater than mine) authority and gravitas to get the fookers to put some markets up for tomorrow?
Report Gin March 6, 2023 5:46 PM GMT
I don't think I have any more authority than anyone else on here!

Have called and requested markets for tomorrow. He said he would put a request through but that doesn't mean they will put them up - There may be a reason that they are avoiding the tournament................

That's the "round robins" all completed, leaving us with a good few interesting match-ups (imo) in the knock out phase:

Zhang Anda v James Wattana

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh v Dechawat Poomjaeng

Hossein Vafaei v Noppon Saengkham

Judd Trump v Mark Williams

Chris Wakelin v Tom Ford

Joe Perry v John Higgins

Stuart Bingham v Ricky Walden

Ronnie O'Sullivan v Ding Junhui

no Lat' for six reds ?

been the wrong time of day for me but a bit of credit to Sir Ron of O'Sullivan (not always his biggest fan) for his very respectful use of local customs/culture etc when caught the very end of the Wattana game...great to see James playing for that matter..

the final red fluke was straight of one of the old 80's club tables btw as it veered off path back towards the line of the pocket...table fitters may need a bit of work yet...
Report The Management March 9, 2023 11:10 AM GMT
Ding beats Ronnie, in what would (i think) otherwise have been 8 out of 8 favs in the last 16 matches.

brentford - I would guess the format and the time of day is off-putting and inconvenient for many. The format has grown on me - round robin groups, BO9 (marathons!) and BO11's, etc.

Liquidity has been dire. No doubt partly due to the format, the time difference and the picture speed - but it won't have been helped by Bf's reluctance to put any markets up in the first place and even then, when they finally bothered, they have been way behind in making them available.
Report The Management March 9, 2023 11:14 AM GMT
As I write, BF have still only got markets on 2 of the 4 quarter finals, whereas all 4 are freely available with plenty of others. To be fair, even Eurosport seem to have given up the ghost on their coverage now! Sad

A Man Called Hoss Love beats Trump in a Winona, so the Semis look like this:

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh v Hossein Vafaei

Tom Ford v Ding Junhui

Back on Eurosport from 8am tomorrow (I think).

whats the point of this tournament?? it's not even snooker
Report The Management March 10, 2023 11:27 AM GMT
It's not. It is what it is though - and I'm enjoying it! The same swings, same drama and even a good few frames for the purists.

A cracking semi to watch just now, between two former winners of the Shoot-Out Shocked and Theppy has won this event before - I'm a bit gutted for Hoss, but very happy that the Thai crowd got what they wanted.

It's something different and unlike the home nations etc (BO7's), at least they play a few frames!
Report The Management March 10, 2023 2:28 PM GMT
A pleasing result for the "locals", the final will be two previous winners of the event, Ding v Theppy.

One of them will join Dark Mavis and Mags on the illustrious list of two-time winners of this event!

BO15 Final - possibly live (ish) on Eurosport from 8am (if the Biathlon or the Cross country skiing doesn't clash!) CryLaugh

Nice low 1.05 and under busts in the Iranian and Dudes matches
Report The Management March 11, 2023 11:46 AM GMT
Well, the final was a bit of a damp squid (sic), not least because I was hoping Queenie (Lyu Xilin)Love would get the refereeing gig!

That aside, plenty of glaring misses and sitters missed by both players. Ding hit 1.01 a bit prematurely and subsequently traded at 1.3+ but the Theppy come-back (from 5:2 down) never really quite looked like having any legs. I would love to think that Ding is "back" - but I just don't think he is!
Report The Management March 11, 2023 11:48 AM GMT
Also - Congrats to Eurosport for sticking with the coverage of the final - and not switching to the Cross Country Skiing! ShockedGrin

I've not withdrawn a bean from here since the first week in December, so the idea of trying to flog yet another dead horse made zero appeal to me, TBH.

No BFLV for this year's CL(I), I guess none for this^ (?), I've been guilty of dedicating far too much time to this at the expense of my other financial interests, so I'm approaching a bit of a cross-roads with how much I'm prepared to do, TBH....

Hi lat'  - only caught this today...sorry to hear it's been a bit thin of late...as you say, sometimes need to re-evaluate the amount of time and energy you spend on this stuff...
I sometimes look back and can't believe how many hours I was on here pre PC doing virtually every televised game of cricket...don't think I could do it these days even if I wanted to !

anyway, go well mate....are Eurosport losing interest in Snooker since the BT tie up ?  was amazed to see the only coverage this week for the WST Classic is on Matchroom streaming or betting feeds for a half decent tourny...Plain
Report Latalomne March 18, 2023 10:30 AM GMT
Sorry, mate, I had the WST thread open in a separate window and didn't look at the rest of the snooker forum yesterday.

Yeah, CL(I) has always been a really good earner for me - until this year, where we had no pictures at all, other than those that were about a fortnight behind on B365.  You can't expect people to play off them.  That's what the main issue has been the last quarter.

Hopefully things will pick up when China is back on the calendar, but I just worry about the damage the last 12 months or so have done to the sport's image.  The Chinese players "situation", no public explanations of any penalties for Dave or Craigie conceding early in matches (if we're saying that's now fine so long as you cite "mental health issues", that opens up a whole new can of worms in terms of integrity)....  It's no wonder broadcasters aren't exactly falling over themselves to cover it?  I've no idea what Eurosport would be paying for a tournament, but does there come a point in time where the governing body might want to pay a broadcaster just to take the coverage and to keep the sport in the public eye?  As I said on another thread, it just feels like the sport is dying on its arse a bit right now....  Plain

Enough of my moaning, I hope all's well with you and that you're winning!
Report brentford March 18, 2023 8:06 PM GMT
cheers Lat'...

yep, wonder if the BBC could at least take some red button coverage of some of these tournies to supplement their coverage of the prestige stuff (Viaplay don't seems to share Premier Sports interest either ) but agree entirely after what was a bit of a rebuild for the sport it seems to be hitting some troubled waters again...hope not...it's more a recreational punt for me with Snooker but still have a lot of affection for the sport.

Wishful thinking with the Beeb, I think, mate, sadly!

I don't think I'd appreciated just how many tournaments have been absent, thanks to the dragging out of qualifiers over a much longer period of time than would have been the case in the past.  I remember a time where there'd have been a good few of these bam-bam-bam tournaments, like this ongoing WST, a season not many years back.  It's no wonder there are players struggling financially, I guess.  Hopefully with China, and the money that brings, back on the table next season (presumably), things will pick up again - though I guess we're still to see the true impact of the current scandals, including on whether China as a nation still wants to throw the cash at it....? (I presume there are contractual obligations for the next couple of seasons at least, but who knows beyond that?)  It's not hard to see why Baz was trying to open doors with the Saudis (which seems to have gone v quiet since COVID struck)....

Be lucky, mate.

yep, probably right about the beeb....interesting how little interest sky have had in snooker over the years, going back to mid/late 90's they showed the Welsh Open I think at one point and the Premier League or whatever it was called for many years but can't remember much else (open to correction from some of the knowledgeable regulars including yourself) ...

not sure how Darts is fairing but I get the impression the main tour does ok...and have to think the Sky tie up is a big part of that..

as you say China coming back on the tour will certainly help but the sensitivities around corruption/bans etc could certainly bring it's own probs..China doesn't tend to take criticism very well...

anyway...hope the time pays dividends for you this week...

Maybe cos i'm old and traditional i think terrestrial coverage will always outstrip satellite, bbc is horrid but still crucial to the game. If world champs ever went ppv, would be disaster imo.

As for sky, who could forget this "exciting" venture that was going to revolutionise the sport..

Don't really know how darts is fairing either, mate.  As a betting medium, it's dead due to how far behind the pics are.  Ridiculous in this day and age....

As for this week paying dividends, withdrawal completed this morning and PC bill showing for collection on Wednesday.  Happy days  LaughLaughLaugh

I genuinely don't remember that, mate!  That would have been at a time I was mainly betting on tennis, racing and rugby in-play, I suppose, so it probably passed me by entirely!  Sounds horrendous!  LaughLaughLaugh

Sorry brent, I'm just hoping by sharing my trauma i might lessen itCry

I seem to remember there were at least 2 versions of this format, another in which the table was divided into sections and you'd score bonus points for difficult pots ie 7 points for black into regular top pocket but 10 for pot into green pocket or something like that. And yes mate, it was truly fcking horrendous!

Actually, i can't find any footage of that format and pretty sure I didn't dream it one dark fretful night so can only assume they expunged all existing traces of it and will deny it ever happened.
