Personally I see no reason why both sexes and all 57 genders cannot compete against each other on level terms. After all it's more about brain than brawn.

A man in drag pretending to be a woman plays on womens tour, it's basically the same as a a male tennis player playing on womens tour, in other words, cheating. That is why the FEMALE SNOOKER players are up in arms about it.
The only reason there's a separate women's tour is because the women's game is such a long way behind the men's, so I can understand why there is uproar. It's not like there's any physical reason why men and women should not be pitted against one another all the time, just that most of them wouldn't be anywhere near good enough, as we keep seeing when those with actual tour cards compete against actual blokes.
Snooker is about the last sport on earth where gender should really matter - try weight lifting and sprint running for comparison on that issue!
