Dings some plonker isn’t he? Could have been done in front of the biggest crowd on the circuit, instead it happens in a bookie benefit tournament in a room with 3 people. Poetic justice almost I’d say.

Fair play to dave gilbert anyway, nice accolade to have.

Looking at world snooker website today and see the headline: Gilbert gets historic 147th 147

What is “historic” about this? It’s just another 147, randomly the 147th done in competition, otherwise no different to the one that came before it or the one that will follow it. If they’d said it’s historic because it’s the first done in the championship league then that would at least be more strictly accurate if downright unremarkable. No disrespect to gilbert but what he had achieved is simply pure happenstance, not history.

I am positively fuming about this!

It wasn't even the first in the Championship League, John!  Mark Davis did two in the same season year before last!

Ah right...but not to worry. He uses an initial in his name doesn’t he, as in David G Gilbert, so I’m pretty certain he has made history by becoming the first initialed snooker player to score a max. Should go into the books that way I reckon.

And this crap post will only ever be posted once making it historic too. I think there’s a good chance fukuyama was thinking of snooker when he wrote about the end of history. If everything’s historic, nothing’s historic.
