The big question here is whether A.Carter can follow-up the win of his life and reach his 4th Crucible SF or will a resurgent M.Williams continue on the path to a 3rd World title? The Captain claimed his victory over R.O’Sullivan wasn’t the biggest win of his life citing wins in 2 Crucible SFs and 4 ranking final wins, but I disagree. Carter has always had the game to do well here, and 2 Crucible finals and a SF is clear proof of his class. He has now added a real steel to his mentality and he showed some real discipline both against R.O’Sullivan and G.Dott (from 2-6). Given the emotional energy he has used up in his 2 wins, there is a chance it will eventually catch up with him the deeper he goes in the tournament, but he has been helped with the schedule and has had time to regroup after his potentially life-changing win. It should not be an issue for this game. In contrast, M.Williams has breezed through his opening 2 matches, and he seemed to raise his game this evening to finish off R.Milkins within an hour. His form this season has been a revelation and it has seen him win 2 ranking events. His overall form is a level above Carter’s this season (and has been for a while). Williams is able to play equally well when the game is open or when the exchanges become protracted, and it is likely that we’ll see a lot of tactical exchanges between these two. I didn’t really consider Williams a title contender pre-tournament as his Crucible form has been generally poor since he last won here in 2003 (has only reached the one-table set-up once since then) but he has to be considered now with his nemesis R.O’Sullivan out the way. Williams is 8/15 with Carter at 13/8, and at the prices Carter looks the call. He looks over-priced.

Is there just a whiff of a class of '92 showdown?

I would love it, if only to hear Davis and his Parrott explain how 2 aged has beens could come through when the standard is so high LaughLaughLaugh

Born a class of '92 final would prove beyond doubt that we are in teh golden age of snooker because look how these 2 great titans of the sport had to raise their games to beat off the challenges from all these young pretenders (including the 42 year old and 2 near 40 olds that stood in Williams path).

They're both at it.  MJW should be in total control of this match.  And isn't.
