After the opening day defeat of the defending champion, we move to the possible defeat of the tournament favourite. This morning's session is going to define the rest of the tournament - it really is a huge, huge session.

If R.O'Sullivan comes through, then he'll need to show all those battling qualities that most of his layers believe he doesn't possess. And, if he does win - the tournament will completely revolve around him and his quest for a 6th World Title. He is likely to shorten to around 6/4 should he prevail.

However, if S.Maguire knocks him out, then the tournament will be totally wide-open, and players who we've all thought are no more than members of the supporting cast come into the reckoning. Most of the reasons for dismissing these players revolves around their likely defeat to O'Sullivan and/or M.Selby. If both of these players are out then it really is up for grabs, and half the field will genuinely believe they have a realistic chance. A fascinating session awaits...

Ron looks on it so far, Maguire could be pegged back without doing much wrong. Then he would lose heart.

The worst possible draw for Ron, as was Perry for Selby imo.

What a 15 days of muggery we are in for with the 2 favs out.

The has beens and never wases skittering themselves as they think its their year.

Oh wait, that could be a HUGE miss from Maguire....

That could be it for Maguire, his cheeks rosier than they were 10 minutes ago.

WC 1st rd..mags vs the rocket

the rocket..held up off the pace early behind clear leader

I don't (do) like to keep harping on about physical fitness, but I wager this morning session not ideal for Maguire.

I suspect he might have his breakfast in the afternoon most of the year.
