Actually think O'Sullivans reasonably priced, can see him playing a succession of mugs all way to quarters or even the semis by which time he'll be less than 2s

Ronnie just passed up on the chance to make a 147 seemingly cos the prize money isn't enough
|
By:
that's how willie was making it sound anyway
|
By:
prob true aswell, this tournament a few years ago he wasnt even going to pot the final black on a 147
|
By:
until the ref told him to pot it
|
By:
yeah i remember that
|
By:
imagine being that good u can just pass up a 147 on tv hahaha
|
By:

A better man would have collected the £12k and then given it to charity if it means so little to him.
|
By:
Think its fair enough what OSullivan did, mazes arent as rare as they used to be, but still 12k is an insult, especially when they are talking about all the investment going into the game. Should start at a minimum 25-30k and work up from there. That he managed to p!ss hearn off was an added bonus!

What's more of an insult, Ronnie 'only' getting 12k for a 147, or the contempt and disdain for the fans, especially the ones in the arena at the time, who would have an 'I woz there' moment to treasure and share for the rest of their lives. Imo Ronnie is as self-centred and dismissive of the fans as he is talented, though that's been evident for several years. I agree with Lybertyne - give it to charity if its not worth having.
Though sadly his views seem to be shared by other top players. Neil Robertson on 5 -live said the max prize should be much higher, especially in later rounds of a big tournament, he actually said it would be a 'disaster' if the prize for a max in World Final was only 5 or 10k. Takes poetic license to a new level when you consider all thats happening in the world. On a slightly more amusing and intriguing point, he said that 'perhaps' the only player who would be happy to get 5k for a maximum in a World Final is Stuart Bingham. |

I dont care what ROS does or doesnt do for charity or have any interest in conflating what a couple of snooker players might say with the tragedies going on around the world, but have to say that 146 was more brilliant and memorable than most of the 147s i've seen. Not that I was actually there to feel all sad and disrespected. The guy's a genius and genius has its own laws. To see a player ask the referee how much for a maximum even before a ball had even been potted! Totally outrageous and utterly brilliant too. I looked at the guardian sports this morning and there was half a page on the snooker, half a page!, there was barely a paragraph on the german masters final last week. I'm not a particular fan of the guy, but the game's nothing without him, there's nobody coming after him despite what hearn says. That's a fact.
|
By:
Saying 'genius has its own laws' is a nice soundbite, but it actually doesnt mean anything, similarly emphasizing an opinion with the words 'and thats a fact' doesnt mean its a fact,, just means its still an opinion but from someone who cant bear scrutiny to his argument. Even if we go with the line that genius has its own laws, I would contend that one of those laws doesnt include treating the sport's fans like a crock of sh!te, and my opinion is that's what he's done. When Tiger Woods was in his heyday and awarded similar genius status, most golf fans wouldnt say he was beyond reproach for having a similarly abject opinion of the fans. And finally, I would also argue that during the past year when Ronnie has played very little, it was no big deal
|
By:
Oh no problem with scrutiny here, have spouted my fair quote of shyte on here over the years and being called to account for it often enough, as it should be. And, yeah, genius has its own laws is a bit of a soundbite, but I think there's at least a small grain of truth in it. Anyway, you're entitled to your viewpoint, I don't have an issue with it, we can agree to disagree. I'm not a Ronnie fanboy and am not claiming what he did yesterday was particularly noble in any way, I just find it harder to share in the whole disgraceful/disrespect to the fans angle. Kind of reminded me of the Roy Keane/Saipan bust-up when some commentator looked Keane in the eye and said solemnly, "but what about the kids Roy?" Just seems all a little OTT to me. But maybe I am just gone too old and cynical now and just not getting the point anymore.
As for the season, seems to me it only came alive in January when (co incidence or not) O'Sullivan returned, after a less than riveting first half, but each to his own I guess. |
By:
anyone actually having a bet on this? there's so many matches on a daily basis
|
By:
best I've ever seen Ronnie play
|
By:
Ronnie has lost just 1 frame out 12 so far....
Allthough to be honest, Pinches, Pengfei & Robertson all looked beaten before they even got into the arena. |
By:
the tournament should start properly tomorrow with the 16 best players battling it out
|
By:
He looks happy and reasonably motivated anyway (although not for 10k obviously!), and the format suits him...in and out in an hour, 90 minutes max..Ronnie'll take that every day of the week, bet he'd give 10k for the world champs to be over best of 7!
|
By:
Any reason not to back Robertson at 1/2?
|
By:
looks like 2-1fu
