I can't see how blindly backing Selby in every event, completely regardless of current form, could possibly fail
|

I backed him in the final against Ding on the strength of him beating Ronnie in the previous match, needless to say, I lost a packet. Should have learnt my lesson really as the last time I backed Selby, about a year ago, he lost too, lesson learnt well and true. I would still back him in early stages of a tourney but never again in the finals.

he has been favourite or one of the favourites for nearly every ranking event for the last year offr so
HIS RANKING WINS= welsh open 2008 shangi masters 2011 THIS GUY WINS ONE RANKING EVENT every 3 years yet he is practically favourite every time he starts a ranking tournament you do the maths folks this guy will lose you money |

I cant see how Trump isnt number 1 everyone can see it! Snooker rankings need a real shake up
|

Selby hasn't been anywhere near the standard he was playing 5/6 years ago just shows how inconsistent and unpredictable other players are, you'd be mad betting on the game.

I think selby has found his level over the last 5 years this is as good as he is.
I dont see any breakthrough in his game that going to make him anymore succesfull in the next 5 years. He will probably win a couple more ranking events when things go his way but he is ranked no 1 so the odds will be too short short to make any profit backing mark selby for ranking events. |

H e was far more confident player 5/6 years ago i think he's gone backwards he had loads of battles over a 2 year period and seemed to affect his game. His whole demeanour just lacks confidence, you can see it in his face,he;s just not taking out the difficult clearences anymore.Hendry wouldv'e murdered these lot at his best all this the standards been risen stuff is only true in that more players are capable now and more consistent, but as for beating hendry he didn't miss a ball for 6 years.

Got to agree with Daz & Gigg, Mark seems to have lost confidence. He could improve matters by speeding up shot selection, he's becoming painful to watch compared to the exciting player he was.

Playing worse than 6 years ago and number one,yet standards risen load of balls!!Literally

the ranking system has changed since 5 years ago.
the points system they use now doesnt reflet the true ability of the players because it is bias to players who play in more tournaments just to pick up more points. Mark selby is truely around 4-8 in the world imo |
By:
so you'd prefer the rankings to be based on opinion rather than actual performances ?
|
By:
as long as it is a good opinion because there is a lot of crap on this snooker forum
|
By:
only a matter of time before the trumpster takes the number one spot off selby imho ...
|
By:
cant see too many dangers to that richie with the likes of higgins getting older and mark williams too.
i cant see too much danger but i dont see him as a dominating number 1 either although he should win more ranking tournaments than selby over the next 3 or 4 years |
By:
Only real talent left in the game.

I understand where you are coming from and see your point but I will be backing him at this seasons Worlds. I dont see Robbo as a multi world champion and Trump will take on that shot he shouldn't, Ding is too in and out and I just cant see the rest having the quality when the chips are down. The final 32 will be of great interest this year and maybe a shock is in store. |

its a brave call to back this man to win any ranking event he has only ever won 2 despite his lofty rank at no 1. Not only this he is short at 8/1 for me this is a very long 17 days for someone who has to put so much concentration into every match. Not only this i dont think he is at the top of his game either i know he got to the final in wales but things droped into place for him their. For me he is always likely to get beat by one of the more natural players in the later stages of tournaments which is why he has only ever won 2 ranking events. His record at he crucible isnt that good either 1 final granted. I feel there are at least 4 or 5 players i would fancy to beat him in the later stages i think he would need a lot of luck with these players getting knocked out early to stand any chance. |

dazz550.
Dazz its impossible to argue against your reasoning. I just have a gut feeling that he will be the most consistent. Selby has just gone 3 nil up against Murphy but he has had an amazing run of the ball. No doubt we will have more to say about the worlds and I am looking forward to that. |

thats the problem he is consistant at getting to the latter stages but then he has to play the better players |
