Under pressure he's not in the same league as Hendry. He played the wrong shot on the green because he was desperate to win and get over the line ,and also missed a longish yellow at 9-8 that would've won him the match.
Great winners step up to the plate imo ,thats what made Hendry the best.
He played BETTER under pressure, it was sickening.

fair comment, wouldn't argue with your reasoning. to me ronnie is the best as his skill when in the right frame of mind is unparalleled in comparison to any player i have previously watched through the last few decades. his downfall is his mentality which is clear for all to see, so in a way i would agree with you he is not 'the greatest' but i would say he is the most talented.

Report Brodie January 17, 2010 11:50 PM GMT
What I'm saying is that Hendry and Ros are both brilliant ,but what separated Hendry from ROS is he is a winner due to a far better mentality under pressure. Its perhaps not fair because Hendry was a freak who actually played better when he was under pressure, which damn him, didn't seem normal, but it is was separates the 2.
ROS in the balls is better than anyone ,so there must be a reason he's not a prolific winner.

Not including the masters...

Hendry has won 74.47% of matches
O'Sullivan 73.47%

Very close a guide to how closely matched they are, but obviously doesnt take into account the quality of opponents in respected era's

To be fair Hendry was far ahead of the players of that era, and then players who played a similarly attacking game came along and challenged Hendry.

Having said that. The year Ronnie was mouthing off at Hendry and Hendry beat him did shut a few people up.

If Hendry was a 25 year old now. He would be dominant. Ronnie should be dominant but something is lacking. For example he kept breaking off left handed and leaving Selby a chance. Now at 9-9 he should have realised this and changed his break. He doesnt do enough to finish off his opponants, unlike Hendry was a genius at putting a match to bed.
