The Final
Ronnie OSullivan v Mark Selby
Ali in the Jungle v The Underdog
The Rocket v The Jester
H2H: 7-2 (with one draw)
Finals: 2-1
Last Meeting 3-2 (Championship League 2010)
Last Ranking Meeting 9-3 UK Championship 2009

Hard to find any value in the betting markets for this one, but as a gambling man Im going to just have a speculative punt on a correct score and leave it at that, a very good week puntingwise and not going to get greedy on a match in which anything could happen.

Ronnie isnt playing as well as he was going into the UK clash last month and Selby isnt playing as well as he was going into the final here last year. Ronnie only seems to be getting bothered about his game when someone is looking like beating him and one might argue that Mark Williams should be in the final after yesterdays chances, but like I said on the semi final thread I did think hed struggle to make it over the line and he did. Id like to say that Ronnie wont get away with leaving chances like that to the Jester but he just might. Williams probably would have beaten Selby if the draw had panned out differently.

I find this match incredibly hard to call, Ronnie might turn on the style and run away with it but something is telling me that it will be a close one, primarily because Ronnie will want it that way. I cant see Ronnie losing unless he finally implodes emotionally, but Im not sensing that this will happen on the table unless the Jester begins to get to him with his over the top banter. Selbys main hope is that Ronnie will feel that hes

No worries Phantom, glad to be of service.

Thanks chaps, I hope you've all followed the good ones this week and not gone too heavy on the bad calls. To answer the earlier question, I just can't bring myself to side with Selby, what I meant was it's hard to know if Ronnie will want an early dash or it might get close. Either way, I think Ronnie will win as he has been the best player there this week even if he thinks he is rubbish. You have to admire him as he really is struggling with his long game and has had the patience and commitment to adapt, Hendry could learn a few things from that, if he did he might still have a tournament or two left in him judging by his performance this week.

Due to the overwhelming demand showed here I'll try and get a blog up and runnning in the coming weeks, hopefully in time for the Welsh Open. In the meantime there is more snooker this week at Crondon Park starting tomorrow, Robertson, Hendry and Allen enter the tournament to join the others, sborting already have outright odds up for Group 3.

Cheers boh. Dipliore, I sometimes have an interest in the outrights and do the odd bit in running, nothing major but I just like watching it, only chance you get nowadays to hear Clive and Neal Foulds!

Thanks for those enlightening lyrics Eldrick. Pointless, talentless and rubbish. Ronnie has obviously never really listened to a truly meaningful, well written song before if he thinks this effort is 'the best song you'll ever hear'. He deserves to lose for that alone.

Sounds to me like Damien's muso mate is a bit of a hanger on. If you watch the world championship in May you should look out for someone sitting there with a t-shirt emblazoned with the words 'I am not Damien Hirst' and the person sitting next to them with one saying 'I have no talent'. I'm tossing up between a T-Shirt saying these and just one saying 'Dump Shot'.

County, there is a difference between the gambling audience and the general public, I think Hearn knows that snooker is inextricably linked with gambling and he's decided to appeal to that, much like the darts. He doesn't have a lot of control over the BBC coverage so it will be interesting to see how that relationship pans out. When I watch the Welsh Open it seems stuck in a bygone age, aimed at old peoples homes and simpletons, maybe they will experiment on that.
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 8:42 PM GMT
They should bring back a nation team tourney. Handicapped if necessary to even things up.
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 8:43 PM GMT
Anyone lay over 3.5 on Thorburn / Reardon coupled mentions?
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 8:45 PM GMT
Agree SY, but with a few exceptions they do seem to take themselves a bit too seriously sometimes. Probably because snooker by it's nature is not as social a sport as darts and quite a lonely youth if you want to get really good.
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 8:47 PM GMT
SY, I've heard that this might be in the pipeline.

They have got to give Jimmy something to do.
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 8:50 PM GMT
County, I had a misspent youth in the 80's and a lot of that image was based on the fact that working class kids could make money hustling against older and better off people.

He plays it because he feels the shot more. Although I didn't play to any great standard I can see what he means as I practised left handed sometimes as I wanted to be Jimmy White! Playing it a different way makes you concentrate more.

They could have a junior version of Arthur's idea with a great theme tune 'The Boy with the Thorn(e) in his side'.
Report snookerbacker January 17, 2010 9:17 PM GMT
