If Willie Thorne and John virgo were young men today would they be good enough to be in the top 16 or even 32 ?

No, no way any of them would get in the top 32. They were both lucky they were born when they were otherwise they wouldn't be getting paid for talking carp like they are now.

Thorne at his peak would be top 10 at the least. Virgo top 16 minimum. If Marco Fu & Ryan Day are in the top 10 then maybe the modern standard isn't all its cracked up to be?

On second thoughts forget Virgo, but thorne had bundles of talent, just cud never close the deal

The standard has gone way up and the pockets much tighter ,but the standard goes up each generation and they can be thankful to the generation before for raising the bar.
Davis of the 80s would struggle massively to win one in this era. Not a big enough scorer. |
