Not one to go mad on me thinks but if i was going to get involved i would be on selby because .

1 - He has just had 14 matches in 4 days in CL snooker at crondon park .

2 - Started to show form again in the uk , the result against cope was a massive boost to his confidence .

3 - Selby enjoys wembley , winner 2 years ago and runner up last year .

4 - Ding habitually does not like playing players who gring it out . I know he beat higgins in the uk final but JH was knackered from the ronnie win .

5 - Has ding been home for xmas ? When did he get back to the uk ?

6 - Selby is slightly bigger fav @ evens , had it 5/6 e o t

As i say not 1 to go mad on .

hats the h2h ?
also I remember seeing Ding looking groggy in the AM before.
Report potdog1 January 10, 2010 9:15 AM GMT
Personally i dont think h2h stand for that much these days unless its 10-0 or on them sort of lines . look at maguire he used to smash ding and robertson but its all gone the other way now . I think selby plays a more percentage game than ding which overall will make him harder to beat even when struggling . Ding throws the rattle out of the pram too easily for me when it is not going his way .
Report airbag January 10, 2010 9:21 AM GMT
yep Selby is the modern day Cliff Thorburn. The Jester will grind him down, hopefully.
Report potdog1 January 10, 2010 9:23 AM GMT
Can i take it your on selby then ?
Report The Calculator January 10, 2010 9:30 AM GMT
I'm a Ding backer here.
On the one year list, Ding is numero uno, Selby is down at 22 - a massive gulf, and if purely on form, Ding at 1.95ish is a decent bet.
Obviously, Selby at Wembley is a different proposition, and this makes it a bit closer - but I'd rather take a player who has several decent wins under his belt already this season, than a player who has been struggling and only has a win over Cope on his CV this season.

Mark Selby will try to shrug off the effects of flu as he launches his bid for a hat-trick of Masters finals at Wembley.
The Jester from Leicester was champion in 2008 and runner-up last year, but he goes into Sunday's first-round tie against Ding Junhui suffering from a virus.
Selby has spent most of the week playing in the Premier League qualifiers at Condon Park in Essex, and admitted he is feeling the effects of the virus.

from Selby's own website.

6-4 Ding for me.

I had done a first round preview for anyone that's interested, I'll post at some point this morning but because I've had technical issues with the forum (hence the slight change in my forum name) I'll have to go and find it. It includes h2h's. But to summarise this morning's match Selby is totally devoid of confidence, played dreadful last week and Ding is the new UK champion. Seems simple enough to me! I've taken Ding minus 1.5 frames at 11/8. Good start expected!

The only problem for Ding backers is that almost every other player willl look to raise their game because of the extra money which hearn will bring in. However, Ding has never had any concerns surrounding money or sponsorship, so not such a big deal for him

Again, hats off to Potdog for an exc ellent post.

Hands up, I went for Ding EVEN with PD's superb reasonings for siding with MS.

Ding is simply rusty and not too much should be read into this result.

MS's chances have from Ding errors.

Ding should have competed in CL last week, but may have had commitments in China.

Anyway, Wd (very likely) winners.
