Anybody having a dabble in this or got any thoughts? Shame it's on the same week as the UK and realise it's not one for the purists but I always find it entertaining enough.

The Americans look a stand out price for me in this one at 13/8 with Stans (not that many will be able to get more than pennies on with them but there's plenty of similar about).

The Europeans have a big advantage in terms of experience and come into the event on the back of two good wins. The experience though is centered
around Souquet and Immonen whose 28 appearances between them is more than the entire US squad and with the captains picks format this year (matches where the opposing captains in some matches pick who they want to play) it'll shake things up slightly and they'll be no hiding. Despite lack of experience in this event the Yanks have a strong all round team with long term lynchpin Archer, number 1 Van Boening and steady Duell amongst their ranks. The euro team is strong as well, there's no denying that but back on home soil in a very lively atmosphere I can't have the Yanks as 13/8 dogs.

Report Lumberg December 13, 2009 4:53 PM GMT
First match up is Souquet v Van Boening. Think Souquet is a very good value bet at 10/11 SJ.

Souquet has played in 6 doubles or singles matches against Van Boening in hte Mosconi and won 5. Souquet won the only singles encounter between the two.
Since 2006 Souquet is 6 from 6 in singles matches at the Mosconi.

COME ON EUROPE!!!!!!!

6/5 Van Beoning value
Report 1.01 Layer December 13, 2009 5:21 PM GMT
Not in my book no category - souquet 1.8 van b 2.2.

I'll give you 6/5 on vb, how much do you want?
Report Eldrick December 13, 2009 5:22 PM GMT
well that's an arb but i would rather take 10/11 souquet, svb no great shakes this week so far, souquet is europe's rock and usa have everything to lose with this lead, svb will be nervy about trying to squeeze another point on the board while souquet basically has nothing to lose

i think it's about 1.84 souquet, it's only a race to 6 racks
Report 1.01 Layer December 13, 2009 5:23 PM GMT
Whoops. Numbers coming out of my ears today 6/5 is 2.2!
Report mightyboosh December 13, 2009 5:25 PM GMT
also on souquet, must win game and confident souquet will turn it on. van boening been making a lot of mistakes.
good luck all

Hatch evens vs Feijen
Archer 9/10 vs Hohmann

Not that you'll be able to get much on with Spoils

Report Lumberg December 13, 2009 7:15 PM GMT
Willie Mosconi was a US pool legend.

William Joseph Mosconi (June 27, 1913 September 12, 1993; pronounced /mɒsˈkoʊni/), best known as Willie Mosconi, was an American professional pool (pocket billiards) player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Between the years of 1941 and 1957, he won the World Straight Pool Championship an unmatched fifteen times. For most of the 20th century, his name was essentially synonymous with pool in North America he was nicknamed "Mr. Pocket Billiards"

Have to question Lely's selection of Feijen as his first pick today, think Hohmann or Immonen would have been mine.
Report 1.01 Layer December 13, 2009 7:52 PM GMT
Yes, superjay
Report Eldrick December 13, 2009 7:53 PM GMT
isn't it the classic set up where the underdog backloads the singles and hopes they get some roll early on, then the momentum is unstoppable at the end when usa are putting their worst players out?
Report Eldrick December 13, 2009 7:56 PM GMT
archer has won all 5 of his matches so far, he's had to carry some terrible teammates in there too
Report Lumberg December 13, 2009 7:59 PM GMT
If Hohmann can beat Archer then I'd still give Europe a big chance. Souquet should beat Van boening again, then Appleton (europe's worst player) takes on Doningues (USA's worst player) pick 'em and Immonen will beat Deuel.

Would be Souquet v Archer in the last game I reckon.

Don't see Hohmann doing it though. 9/10 Archer with Spoils is great value, Archer yet to drop a point.

"I'll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them" KK
