Anybody having a dabble in this or got any thoughts? Shame it's on the same week as the UK and realise it's not one for the purists but I always find it entertaining enough.

The Americans look a stand out price for me in this one at 13/8 with Stans (not that many will be able to get more than pennies on with them but there's plenty of similar about).

The Europeans have a big advantage in terms of experience and come into the event on the back of two good wins. The experience though is centered
around Souquet and Immonen whose 28 appearances between them is more than the entire US squad and with the captains picks format this year (matches where the opposing captains in some matches pick who they want to play) it'll shake things up slightly and they'll be no hiding. Despite lack of experience in this event the Yanks have a strong all round team with long term lynchpin Archer, number 1 Van Boening and steady Duell amongst their ranks. The euro team is strong as well, there's no denying that but back on home soil in a very lively atmosphere I can't have the Yanks as 13/8 dogs.

I think Americans are fielding the winner of "American Pool Idol" in their team, so perhaps they are not taking it as seriously as they used to?

No that's not the case Java. The guys been first class
on the north east tour and beat up Appleton ( on the euro team) in Vegas so he can play. Plus the fact he was picked above Charlie Williams and Rodney Morris especially shows how highly he's rated. If anything, with the omission of Earl who's been pretty much an all-round embarassment albeit headline maker in recent years it suggests they're taking it very seriously

No it was a vote but not in that way. There was no singing and the people involved in this one actually had some talent. I have it on good authority that Steve Brookstein and Danny from Hear Say will not be chalking it up for the European team.

Looks the strongest ever European team and they've dominated the last few Mosconi's and should be looking to win it for the 4th straight year but for a massive choke from Immonen in 2006.
Immonen made up for that last year and he is one of 4 world champs in the European team, with Feijen making up the 5 and he's only lost 1 game in each of last 2 years.

USA are without Strickland and Morris and are blooding in two rookies. Van Boening doesn't seem to like the team aspect and should be kept away from the doubles matches.

Best bets for me:

Europe -2 @ 6/4 SJ
Souquet top European pts scorer 3/1 Lads/VC/SJ/Hills
Souquet top overall points scorer 11/2 spoils/bfred
Feijen to score more points than Appleton @ 7/4 SJ
Archer to score more points than Van Boening @ 7/4 SJ

Europe has one of the strongest team ever, without making too bold a prediction, I expect a pretty comfortable win this year.

Immonen has won nearly every major tournament this year and is the form player, he cannot miss right now.

Souquet and Hohmann reached the final of the World Cup of Pool only losing to the host and favourites, the Philippines. It's was a scotch doubles format so they clearly bond as a doubles-pairing.

Feijen, current straight pool champion, plenty of Mosconi experience and knows how to win in the states.

Appleton, may be the rookie but he was currently the number ranked player in the World and World 10 Ball Champion. Has plenty of 'team' pool experience, some of you may remember him playing English pool on SKY.

Theres you case on Europe, strongest team ever to be assembled, gone are the days of popularity figures such as Jimmy White, Higgins, Steve Davis etal. Can see Team Europe dominating for many years to come

on replay, dominguez did have to put some action into the cue ball, so not a complete gimme, but the 8 ball (which was from a foot away from pocket) didn't even get near a knuckle
