Ireland v SA quarter is going to be a tough match for the Irish imo.

NZ V SA

Will Australia avoid N. Zealand en route Para?
Aussie around 20/1 to win it and a third of the odds a place. |
By:
AB's v Wales final. AB's 2.22 on here to win the Tournament. Can't believe the price
|
By:
I'm fairly sure they were in the red in 2015 and I don't see how much has changed. Hard to imagine anyone beating them.
|
By:
leif,no aus will not avoid nzealand, if both get through they will meet semi finals, Is it better for england to get hammered by france come 2nd and play wales, s africa and then new zealand ?
|
By:
NZL-RSA. Northern hemisphere not good enough.
|
By:
QF line ups: England Australia, NZ Ireland, Wales France and Japan S Africa. Semis England NZ and Wales Japan. Final NZ Wales. Looks straightforward.
|
By:
NZ v SA / Wales
Wales are my dark horses. Extremely well drilled to win competition Rugby. May be good enough as a team to beat SA. From what I have seen it is NZ v SA Final. Could England spring a surprise on NZ. I think individually they have the players to be competitive but as a team they just do not have that All Black way of playing. It could be the match of the World Cup along with Wales v SA. I don't think the final will be as good as two close exhilarating semi's. |

The Scotland Japan match is going to be a cliffhanger unless one team wins easily. After todays game Ireland have 3 bonus points, Japan and Scotland 2 each. Scotland will have a better points difference so even if Scotland beat Japan by a single point on Sunday, Japan would be knocked out. I still think Japan will win the game.
|
By:
from what i heard , if scotland win with bonus point, scotland through
scotland win and japan dont score bonus points , scotland through scotland say win 23-20 and japan score 4 tries but scotland dont score 4 tries japan through as they get 2 bonus point. i might be talking complete bollocks though ![]() |
By:
ps scot win by less than 7 points , an no bonus point for tries, japan go through with bonus point for losing under 7 pts..
![]() |
By:
ps again, i said if scot win with a bonus point , scotland through, but just thinking it over, if scot win with bonus point theyll have max 5 pts, but japan could still get 2 points for tries and losing under 7 , so japan go through.
|
By:
scot win with 1 bonus point qualify if japan no bonus points
scot win with 1 bonus point japan qualify with 1 or 2 bonus point scot win no bonus point , japan qualify with 1 or 2 bonus point scot win no bonus point , scot qualify if japan no bonus point bonus point winning team can only have 1 bonus point for 4 tries or more bonus point losing team can have 1 bonus point for 4 tries + or 1 bonus point for losing by 7 pts or less I THINK THATS BETTER AND COVERED IT. |
By:
yes scotland have to win 4-0 or 5-1. in real world that's by min 8 points or scoring 4 tries. doubt it's gonna be a try fest
|
By:
and if the typhoon hits that all gets blown away.
|
By:
so if japan-scotland gets cancelled, that's 2 points for each, japan obviously go through but ireland still have to play samoa so would likely win the group if they get a bonus point and have more points "for" than japan, is that right??
|
By:
think japan would win the group on HTH if they finish on level points but pretty sure unlike england and france they'll make every effort to play the japan scotland game
|
By:
why do you think they,ll make every effort to play the japan game, ? if no game japan go through
|
By:
be no credibility for the tournament otherwise and not a good look just waving the hosts through to the next round. would certainly think they'll try to play it on monday if they can't sunday but beyond that there's just no time realistically
|
By:
Why is there any credibility about flouting the written rules on which the tournament was played?
|
By:
They cannot play on Monday - that is clear from the tournament rules. It's on the day or not at all as per Eng v Fra and NZ v Italy
|
By:
I would say the fact Japan will go through makes their game against Scotland even less likely to go ahead if they are able to find an excuse for it not to be played. At one stage it looked like it was the Ireland game under threat and Scotland could benefit from it,now it appears to have swung in the opposite direction for them.
|
By:
just thought there might some flexibility. having booted italy out in similar circumstances although their chance of qualifying was tiny compared to scotland the organisers really got nowhere to go
everyone agreed to these ludicrous rules before the tourney so you can't really go complaining or running to rumpole whey they come into play |
By:
Agree that all teams agreed to the rules prior to the competition, but in fairness they probably never expected them to actually come into play with an act of god like a Typhoon.
|
By:
They should have done. Not on a specific day but the chance of a typhoon during 4 weeks was very high.
|
By:
Scotland not happy at all. trying to argue against the rules
|
By:
Hopefully for Scotland the game goes ahead, and the best team goes through on merit(could still be Japan) but if the game wasn't to go ahead I fully understand why Scotland would be upset and feel hard done by.
|
By:
A bit of a joke that these teams plan a 4 year cycle around this 1 event, then can be eliminated by the weather
![]() |
By:
Yep would have to agree.I think the main gripe everyone has is that the rule should have been if anything like this happened the games got rescheduled, rather than called a draw.
Defiantly think they could and should have come up with something better when you consider how much time they had for the pre planning of the whole tournament.I had no idea Japan had a typhoon season, but surely this should have been looked into more thoroughly if they were aware this was a strong possibility. |
By:
Trouble is weather can ruin most things, look at cricket can be ahead for 4 days then bad light comes along and its a draw.
If you agree with the rules its no good complaining when they dont go your way. (almost brexit like) ![]() |
By:
Yeah very true.I just wonder how much choice the teams were given or if they were told this is what happens in the case of postponed games.
Water under the bridge now anyway,it is what it is I guess. |
By:
A bit of a joke that these teams plan a 4 year cycle around this 1 event, then can be eliminated by the weather Crazy
Looks like no team got eliminated by the weather in the end although I am sure Scotland will be making a legal challenge to their defeat by Japan! The Nips should not be in a World Cup Quarter Final, that is an unwritten law! Further more to all of you who think teams like Japan should not be in this tournament...well I am too polite! I would concede the format is too long! If they could get it down to 4 weeks that would be great but it is a physically demanding game. There are more than 8 teams with a chance of progression and that is good for the Union! I was extremely impressed by Uruguay today. Ok they lost to second string Wales but they played good rugby. Well done. Send them some money and coaches to improve! They deserve it! |
By:
Japan clearly the best team yesterday and I think they might beat South Africa if they recover from that in time.
|
By:
if the quarters get called off , and no play at all , england are out

just one thing about the rwc its too long, and far too much un competitive matches, its great that little teams are in , but maybe , 4 groups of 4, ok 4 teams would miss out . then teams would have 1 less group game, and the length would be shortened by at least a week, and also definetly then much more competitive group matches. agree with you whispering, it is too long, |
